Beau Yineman, WIAC Student-Athlete Spotlight

Each week during the 2021-22 academic year, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will feature two student-athletes (one male and one female) from one of its eight institutions for a "Student-Athlete Spotlight" Q & A segment. The segments, presented by Culver's, will be also posted every Thursday on the WIAC website.

Name: Beau Yineman
Institution: UW-Oshkosh
Hometown and High School: Neenah, Wis. (Neenah High School)
Year in school: Junior
Sport(s): Wrestling
Major(s): Physical Education
Minor(s): n/a

Why did you choose to attend UW-Oshkosh?
I chose UW-Oshkosh because it was close to home and I could make a local impact in my community. I also chose UW-Oshkosh because I could save a lot of money compared to other schools being that I'm a commuter student. Staying local has provided me the opportunity to make a lot of connections with people in the area and that's something I have really enjoyed about being at UW-Oshkosh.

What other clubs/organizations on campus are you involved in?
I am involved in Athletes in Action. Athletes in Action is a Christian ministry devoted specifically toward athletes and how God fits into athletics. We do one-two Bible studies a month, getting athletes from all different sports on campus to attend.

What causes do you care about?
I care about love and being kind to others, the way God shows love to everyone. In my life I have found kindness is something that holds us together and when I struggle, love from God, friends and family have pushed me to keep going. My purpose past sports and career is to hold the value of love and grace above all and try my best to love others the best I can even when I'm not perfect.

What do you like most about competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete?
One of my favorite parts of the wrestling season is the conference duals held throughout the season. I like the competitive atmosphere against each school and battling to defeat each opponent.

What is your favorite…

Menu item from Culver's? Mint Oreo Concrete Mixer
Flavor of the Day from Culver's? Mint Chocolate Chip
Non-Athletic Spot on Campus? Disc golf
Movie? Braveheart
TV Show? The Witcher
Food? Ice Cream
Musical Group/Artist? The 1975
Professional Sports Athlete? Eagle McMahon
Hobby? Writing/Music
Quote/motto? "Love others like God does."

What is your greatest sports moment?
During duals when our team gets loud and rowdy when somebody scores or records a pin.

What is the best thing that you bring to the team?
A fun, competitive atmosphere in practice and competition.

Do you have any words of advice for younger/upcoming student-athletes?
Create goals for yourself and set a higher standard than the average athlete. In practice, focus on little things during the drills you do. In wrestling, for example, if you need to move your feet more, focus on your footwork a little more than normal on takedown drills. This intentional focus will improve the area where you struggle on and give your drilling more purpose.

What is your favorite thing to do off the court/field with your teammates?
I like to play card games and board games off the mat. I find to have a lot of fun with that.

If you could trade places for a day with a person, who would it be and why?
If I could trade places with one person it would be Elon Musk or someone like that. I would give people free cars and drive on a race track super fast and just have a fun and lavish expensive day.

What is your dream job?
I would want to be a music artist or pro disc golfer.

Three things on your "bucket list"?
Travel outside the United States
Go elk hunting and harvest the animal
Travel to all 50 states

Do you have any pre-game/pre-event superstitions or rituals? If so, what are they?
Before every match I say a quick prayer to compete to my best ability, wishing that no one gets hurt and that I love God.

What is your biggest "pet-peeve"?
Bad roads because of weather.
