Jordan Lemcke, WIAC Student-Athlete Spotlight

Each week during the 2020-21 academic year, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will feature two student-athletes (one male and one female) from one of its eight institutions for a "Student-Athlete Spotlight" Q & A segment. The segments, presented by Culver's, will be also posted every Thursday on the WIAC website.

Name: Jordan Lemcke
Institution: UW-Oshkosh
Hometown (High School): Rogers, Minn. (Rogers High School)
Year in School: Senior
Sport(s): Wrestling
Major(s): Environmental Studies
Minor(s):
Sociology

Why did you choose to attend UW-Oshkosh?
I chose UW-Oshkosh because it was the only school that replied to me. I also really liked the campus and family feel the team had.

What other clubs/organizations on campus are you involved in?
None.

What do you like most about competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete?
I like competing in the WIAC because all the teams have good heavyweights, so it's always a battle every time on the mat. I like being a Division III student-athlete because it gives me the opportunity to be an athlete while also working toward my degree.

What is your favorite…

Menu item from Culver's? Spicy crispy chicken sandwich
Flavor of the Day from Culver's? Chocolate Caramel Twist
Non-Athletic Spot on Campus? Reeve Union or Blackhawk Commons because there's food there
Movie? Miracle on Ice and High School Musical
TV Show? South Park
Social Media Platform? TikTok
Food? Venison or burritos
Musical Group/Artist? Johnny Cash
Professional Sports Athlete? Conor McGregor
Hobby? Playing video games, petting my cat and making pickles
Quote/motto? "Great moments are born from great opportunities." – Herb Brooks

What is one word that describes yourself?
Lovable.

What is your greatest sports moment?
Making it to the second period for the first time on varsity and winning my first varsity wrestling match in high school. Those are things my high school coaches and I still joke about.

Do you have any words of advice for younger/upcoming student-athletes?
Keep grinding. The harder you work, the greater it will pay off in the long run.

What is your favorite thing to do off the court/field/mat with your teammates?
Playing Mario Super Sluggers and Fortnite and watching UFC and wrestling with the fellas.

If you could trade places for a day with a person, who would it be and why?
Not a person, but I would trade places with my cat because he has the life. Sleeps, plays and doesn't have to pay for anything or have any responsibilities.

What is your dream job?
My dream job would be having my own hunting television show where I go around the world hunting many different amazing animals.

Three things on your "bucket list"?
To become a wrestling coach
Do more hunting outside of Minnesota and Wisconsin
Have kids and watch them participate in things they love

Do you have any pre-game/pre-event superstitions or rituals? If so, what are they?
None really, but I like to watch the matches before mine.

What is your biggest "pet-peeve"?
People who don't use their turn signals while driving.
