Oshkosh Men Place Fifth in UW-La Crosse Phil Esten Challenge

LA CROSSE, Wis.- The No. 23 nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh men's track and field team placed fifth at the 18-team UW-La Crosse Phil Esten Challenge on Friday and Saturday (April 21-22). The Titans finished with 65 points while UW-La Crosse won the meet with 166 team points.

Track Event Results

The 4x100-meter relay 'A' squad finished in second with a time of 41.27 seconds. The 'B' squad took third in 41.39 seconds.

In the 100-meter dash finals, senior Denzel Thomas finished third in 10.84 seconds as the only Titan to start the race.

Senior Steven Potter ran the 1,500-meter run in 3:50.17, grabbing third place.

Freshman Devin Williams took sixth in the 400-meter dash, running a 50.95. Sophomore Jelani Lawson and freshman Caiden Hoeppner also finished in the top-20 with finishes of 52.04 and 52.42 seconds, respectively.

Sophomore Jake Krause ran a 9:22.46 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for sixth place.

In the 200-meter dash, senior Aaron Richardson finished in sixth place with a time of 22.26 seconds.

Field Event Results

Freshman Isaiah Isom took second in the shot put, throwing 49' 10" (15.19m). Freshman Kieran Maude also finished in the top-eight, finishing seventh with a 46' 10" (14.27m) cast.

Sophomore Zach Zirgibel took third in the pole vault, clearing the bar with a best height of 15' 3" (4.65m).

In the discus throw, Isom threw 139' 11" (42.64m), taking sixth place.

Freshman Steven Wauer placed eighth in the javelin throw with a cast of 113' 7" (34.63m).

Decathlon Event Results

Oshkosh swept the top four positions in the 100-meter dash. Freshman Aden Sears won with a time of 10.97 seconds, followed in order by freshman Charlie Nolan (10.97), junior RJ Bosshart (11.01) and junior Payton White (11.02).

The top four spots in the long jump went to Oshkosh. Nolan grabbed the crown with a distance of 22' 7" (6.88m), followed by White at 21' 11 3/4" (6.70m), Sears at 21' 4 3/4" (6.52m) and Bosshart at 21' (6.40m). Freshman Cole Spanbauer tied a Blugold for seventh with a mark of 20' 5" (6.22m).

In the high jump, Nolan won with a height of 6' 4 1/4" (1.94m). Sears finished second, clearing the bar at 6' 2" (1.88m). Spanbauer and freshman Matthew Ewens finished in seventh at 5' 1 1/2" (1.79m).

Sears won the 400-meter dash in 50.10 seconds. Nolan followed in third with a time of 50.90 and White took fifth (51.83).

Sears won his third decathlon event, throwing 38' 11 1/2" (11.87m) in the shot put.

Sears placed first in his fourth event of the weekend when he ran a 15.08 second 110-meter hurdle. Nolan took fifth with a time of 15.67 seconds.

The pole vault saw Bosshart pace the Titans in third place, vaulting 14' 1 3/4" (4.31m). Ewens cleared the bar at a best height of 13' 5 3/4" (4.11m) for fifth place, Sears finished sixth with a height of 12' 10" (3.91m) and Nolan took seventh with a mark of 12' 6" (3.81m).

Nolan took fourth in the javelin throw with a throw of 140' 7" (42.84m).

Bosshart finished fifth in the discus throw with a cast of 102' 10" (31.35m).

In the 1,500-meter run, Nolan ran a 5:01.00 for eighth place.

After the final decathlon event finished, Sears sat in second place with a score of 6,553 points, a personal record, and the third-highest score in program history. Nolan followed in fourth with 6,470 points, also a personal record and the fourth-highest score in program history. White took eighth with 5,639 points.

Looking Forward

The Titans will return to action next weekend at both the 113th Drake University (Iowa) Relays and the UW-Eau Claire Dick & Mary Johnson Invitational.
