Titans Finish Red Hawk Opener With Four Event Wins

RIPON, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh men's track & field team won four events in a strong showing at Ripon College (Wis.) for the Red Hawk Opener Saturday. There were no team scores in the meet.

They competed against athletes from the Lakeland University (Wis.), Lawrence University (Wis.), Marian University (Wis.), Trinity Christian College (Ill.), and Division I University of Wisconsin.

Track Events

Andrew George led Oshkosh with a second place 4:22.14 finish in the mile run. He was followed by Cameron Cullen (4:23.51), Eli Traeder (4:27.20), Paul Proteau (4:30.43) and Trent Chadwick (4:33.03) in the top-eight.

Oshkosh won their first event of the day in the 400-meter dash. Devin Williams won the race in 50.56. Titans took the next nine spots.

Aden Sears grabbed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.94 seconds. Matt Scholbe took third (9.18), Matthew Ewens took fourth (9.29) and Cole Spanbauer took seventh (11.77). 

After all but one of the eight spots in the 60-meter finals were claimed by Titans, Aaron Richardson took the crown in 6.94 seconds. Danny Vinson, Ja'siah Williams and Jaylen Grant took second through fourth, while Charlie Nolan and Dylan Gramley took sixth and seventh.

As the one Titan running in the 800-meter run, Joe Hertel finished in fourth with a time of 2:08.80.

Ben Jung and Caiden Hoeppner took second and third in the 200-meter dash with times of 24.07 and 24.19 seconds, respectively.

Joe Freng ran the 3,000-meter run in 9:17.89, good for third in the race.

The top three and sixth 4x400-meter relay teams were from Oshkosh. The first-place team finished in 3:24.84.

Field Events

Sebastian Jefferson led the Titans with a second-place finish in the long jump with a 7.10-meter mark, good for 10th in program history and the furthest jump this season. Caleb Wright took third, Richardson took fourth, Williams took fourth and Jamyle Brantley took eighth to round out the top finishers.

Jonathan Wilburn won the triple jump with a mark of 14.20 meters, followed by Elijah Pena (13.67), Nolan (13.36) and Jung (13.26) in second through fourth.

Caleb Cornelius finished highest in the high jump for Oshkosh with a best jump of 1.97 meters. Scholbe took seventh with a mark of 1.67 meters.

Five Titans finished in the top-eight in the pole vault, led by Eli Tranel who finished with a 4.56-meter mark.

Max Schoening was the top Division III finisher in the 35-lb. weight throw, throwing a 14.33-meter attempt. Cameron Bendixen, Kieran Maude and Isaiah Isom followed in fifth, sixth and seventh places.

Following a Wisconsin thrower, Isom led Division III with a 14.69-meter shot put attempt. Tay'Jion Johnson and Maude followed in third and fifth with throws of 13.98 and 13.72 meters, respectively.

Looking Forward

The Titans return to action on Friday, Jan. 27 to compete in the two-day Warren Bowlus Open hosted by UW-Stout. The meet starts at 3 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday.
