Coon Named To USA D-3 Volleyball Team
Izzy Coon (So. • Fond du Lac) has been invited to take part in the Brazil Tour 2024 for the USA D-3 Volleyball Team. The USA D-3 program is led by Ron Smith, who has over 20 years of experience with the organization and administration of sports tours and events.
The USA D-3 Volleyball teams are invited NCAA Division III men's and women's players from across the country. This team is comprised of players recognized as All-Americans, All-Region, and All-Conference. The nine women's players represent seven different colleges and universities and come from eight different home states. The 10 men's players hail from 10 different schools and eight different home states.
"This is an outstanding group of young men and women. Many of the players on this year's USA/Brazil Tour team had great individual seasons and led their teams into post season play. This tour is designed to expose players to a great volleyball experience while providing a once in a lifetime opportunity for educational, cultural and social growth," said Smith.
Head women's volleyball coach Jon Ellmann and the entire coaching staff were very excited for Izzy and this amazing opportunity. "We are so proud that Izzy has been awarded this great opportunity to represent UW-Oshkosh Volleyball on a national stage. The qualities that make Izzy a great person and player will surely help bring cohesiveness, confidence, and points to this team. We can't wait to follow along and share the updates with our Oshkosh Volleyball family!"
The USA D-3 Volleyball tour will run from June 10 through June 19. The teams will begin with orientation in Orlando, Florida, on June 10 before the team flies to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil that evening. The teams will play four matches in Rio de Janeiro in Rio between June 12-17. The USA D-3 Volleyball Teams will co-host a youth skills clinic at the Marina Barra Clube in Rio on Saturday June 15. The USA D-3 teams will compete in the Marina Barra Clube "International Challenge" on the afternoon of June 15 in the Barra neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. Both the men's and women's teams will play two matches. Barra is the same part of Rio that the 2016 Olympic Village and most venues were located.
During the trip, the teams will experience educational, cultural, and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school, and sports club visits. While in Rio, the team will be staying on the world-famous Copacabana Beach and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.
"I am honored and humbled to represent UW-Oshkosh and our Titan nation in Brazil in June and participate in the select USA Division III volleyball team," Coon said. "While there, I will be playing 5 matches, volunteering at youth clinics and getting the opportunity to build connections with other Division III men's and women's student-athletes. I am thrilled to be able to represent out past, present and future Titans!"
