Fregien Named to CSC Academic All-America Second Team

AUSTIN, Texas- Sophomore libero Abby Fregien was named to the 2022 College Sport Communicators (formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America or CoSIDA) Volleyball Academic All-America Second Team on Wednesday afternoon.

A kinesiology major, Fregien owns a 3.99 cumulative GPA and was on the WIAC All-Academic Honor Roll last season. She is involved in the community by acting as a volunteer coach in a local youth volleyball league.

This season, Fregien has also named to the America Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Third Team, AVCA All-Region 8 First Team, CSC Academic All-District team and All-WIAC Honorable Mention team as well as being named the WIAC Defensive Player of the Year.

In the 2022 season, she led the conference with 747 digs, ranking second nationally, as well as leading the conference with a 5.37 digs per set average.

She is the first volleyball player in program history to be named a CSC Academic All-American. "We were so excited to learn Abby received this award.  It helps to validate the work that she and others in our program put in on a daily," head coach Jon Ellmann said on Wednesday afternoon. He continued, "We care deeply about making sure that our student-athletes have the support they need to be the absolute best version of themselves.  We stress that our student-athletes need to take self-inventory, they must know where they want to go and how they want to get there, and they need discipline and great habits in place.  Abby checks all of those boxes and we couldn't be more proud of her for this recent accomplishment.  She is a shining example of what it means to be a Titan".
