Fregien Named All-American; Sundholm Earns Honorable Mention

OSHKOSH, Wis.- Sophomore libero Abby Fregien was named to the 2022 All-America Third Team and junior pin Carissa Sundholm was named an honorable mention on Tuesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). 

The Third Team selection was Fregien's third honor of the season. She was also the WIAC Defensive Player of the Year and a WIAC honorable mention as well as a member of the AVCA Region Eight First Team.

Fregien finished the season with 749 digs, 407 receptions on 416 attempts, 57 service aces and 57 assists. She played in 37 matches and 139 sets. Her 747 season digs were good for 6th all-time, behind Samantha Schmidt's 804 digs in 138 sets in the 2005 season.

Carissa Sundholm was named an All-America honorable mention. Sundholm ended the season with 470 kills on 1,441 total attacks, 17 assists, 17 aces, 330 digs, and 44.0 total blocks with 15 block solos for 525.5 points. This season, she became the 14th member in program history to achieve 1,000 kills and is tied for No. 13 on the all-time list at Oshkosh.

The last season the Titans had a player on the AVCA All-America team was 2015, when Katelyn Malcheksi, Mandy Trautmann and Nerissa Vogt were named as Honorable Mentions. The 2009 season was the most recent season the Titans had players on numbered teams, with Cahoon and Jacque Ray named to the First Team and Katie Beining on the Third Team, with Aleisha Bagin and Katelyn Vara earning Honorable Mentions. Cahoon was named the Nfinity/AVCA NCAA Division III National Player of the Year, the first libero at any level of NCAA collegiate volleyball to receive the award.
