Three Titans Receive Regional Honors; Ellmann Receives Regional Coach of the Year;

OSHKOSH, Wis.- Three UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball players and head coach Jon Ellmann were named to the 2022 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Region 8 team on Thursday.

2022 is the first season the Titans have been in Region Eight, previously the being in the Midwest Region.

The Titans finished the regular season with a record of 30-4, winning their final 19 regular season matches in a row. They are currently ranked No. 12 in the nation by the AVCA. Receiving the No. 2 seed in the WIAC tournament, they got a first round bye, facing UW-Stevens Point in the second round. The match went to five sets before the Titans fell 14-16. In the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Selection Show, the Titans received the No. 4 seed in the national tournament. Oshkosh plays No. 5 Otterbein University (Ohio) on Thursday night at 4:30 p.m. CST. They will compete at Van Noord Arena at Calvin University (Mich.) in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

Abby Fregien and Carissa Sundholm were named to the AVCA Region Eight First Team. Fregien earned All-WIAC Honorable Mention and All-Defensive team honors. The sophomore libero ended the regular season with 54 assists, 46 aces, a WIAC-leading 668 digs and 46.0 points in 34 matches. Sundholm, a junior pin, led the team in the regular season in kills with 441, owning a .234 attacking percentage and 492.0 points in 34 matches. She also recorded 16 aces, 289 digs and 55 total blocks with 13 solo blocks. She surpassed 1,000 career kills on Oct. 29 against Wisconsin Lutheran College, currently sitting at 1,018 career kills. Upon reaching 1,000 kills, she became the 14th player in program history to reach the mark.

Riley Kindt was a Region Eight Honorable Mention. A sophomore middle blocker, Kindt recorded 340 kills with a .283 attacking percentage, 72 digs, a team-leading 95 total blocks with 18 solo blocks and 401.5 points in 34 matches in the regular season.

Ellmann, who was the WIAC Coach of the Year, also earned AVCA Region Eight Coach of the Year. He coached the team to a career-best 30-4 regular season record and earned his 100th career win as head coach of the Titans on Oct. 19 against UW-Eau Claire. He is now sitting at 107-57 in five seasons at the helm in Oshkosh.

The Titans' last AVCA All-Region recipient was Samantha Jaeke, who was an honorable mention. The most recent first-team nominations for Oshkosh were Mandy Trautmann and Nerissa Vogt in 2015.
