Volleyball Sweeps Pair Of Wins At Home Invite

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team dominated on the opening day of the M.V.P. Invitational, defeating Marian University and Lake Forest College by 3-0 scores Friday (Sept. 9) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Oshkosh (7-1) swept Marian in set scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-13 and Lake Forest College in scores of 25-17, 25-14, 25-11. The Titans are now 16-2 versus Marian since 1989, including 10 consecutive victories, and 14-2 against Lake Forest since 1982 after their ninth straight win the series.

The Titans hit .234 and held Marian to a -.022 rate en route to the comfortable victory.

Riley Kindt collected nine kills on 15 swings and Robyn Kirsch had eight terminations to lead UW-Oshkosh.

Nine Titans provided kills in the match, including Olivia Breunig, Hannah Moe, Riley Dahlquist and Izzy Coon with two each. Coon and Kalli Mau both had eight assists for UW-Oshkosh while Abby Fregien led all players with 15 digs and Amelia Hust produced five of UW-Oshkosh's 12 service aces.

The Sabres' Kaitlyn Merrill had a team-best nine kills. Anna Tapia had a match-high 17 assists for Marian (0-5).

UW-Oshkosh went on a 9-2 run to extend its lead to 16-7 in the first set that was culminated on a Kindt kill.

Clinging to a 21-17 advantage during the second frame, the Titans capped the set with on a kill by Angie Blinderman, a pair of terminations from Kirsch and a Sabres service error on the second set-point.

The Titans then scored the first five points of the final frame, including the last two on Hust service aces, and cruised to the match sweep. UW-Oshkosh secured the victory on a combination block from Dahlquist and Moe.

Carissa Sundholm led the Titans with 12 kills on 23 attacks as UW-Oshkosh outhit the Foresters, .292 to .052, and held advantages of 39-21 in kills, 49-40 in digs, 9-4 in service aces and 4-2 in blocks.

Moe and Kindt both contributed six kills for UW-Oshkosh, hitting .556 and .312, respectively, while Kirsch added five terminations and Dahlquist four.

Mau dished out 15 assists and produced four service for the Titans, who also received 18 digs and a pair of service aces from Fregien.

Mary Gegen's 10 kills and nine digs paced Lake Forest.

UW-Oshkosh never trailed the entire match, building leads of 8-3 in the first set, 10-0 during the second frame and 6-0 in the third set.

The Titans' 10-point run to open the second set featured kills by Kindt, Kirsch and Breunig; a Kirsch block; and three service aces from Mau. UW-Oshkosh later sewed up the victory following a Makenna Barone kill and a Foresters attack error on the final two points of the contest.

UW-Oshkosh concludes its own M.V.P. Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 10) with matches against Bethel (Minn.) and Millikin (Ill.) universities in Kolf Sports Center.
