Titans Cruise To Sweep Of Buccaneers

All 18 Titans in uniform received playing time as the UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team defeated Beloit College, 3-0, during its final regular season home match of the season Wednesday (Oct. 27) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Oshkosh (17-11) trailed for just one point the entire match en route to downing Beloit College (7-17) in set scores of 25-19, 25-13, 25-11 during the first meeting between the programs since 2007. The Titans are now 7-0 against the Buccaneers since 1985.

The Titans outhit Beloit College, .262 to -.118, holding the Buccaneers to a -.217 hitting percentage in both of the final two sets. UW-Oshkosh also held considerable advantages of 37-12 in kills, 37-22 in digs, 10-3 in service aces and 8.5-3 in blocks. The Titans entered the match ranked sixth in the NCAA Division III with 212.5 total blocks and 10th with 1,785 digs.

Riley Kindt and Carissa Sundholm paced UW-Oshkosh with seven kills apiece while Olivia Breunig added six terminations on six swings, and Kate Nottoli and Joslyn Wolff both chipped in four kills.

Madyson Pearson contributed three kills to go along with a match best four blocks for the Titans, who also received three kills on four attempts and three blocks from Holly Baierl.

Sundholm and Kindt have led the team in kills 17 and 15 times, respectively, this season.

Emma Kiekhofer dished out 19 assists and Kalli Mau 13 assists and three service aces while codirecting the UW-Oshkosh offense that got kills from nine different players.

UW-Oshkosh's Amelia Hust, who went into the match ranked eighth in the country with 515 digs, paced the squad for the 24th occasion with 10 digs in two sets played Wednesday.

UW-Oshkosh seniors Becky Brezen, Samantha Silbernagel and Brianna Vettese combined for seven digs and five service aces, including three digs apiece by Brezen and Vettese, and three service aces from Silbernagel.

Beloit College leaders included Katrina Sanchez with six kills, Cora Linos with eight assists, Abbie Schmidt with seven digs and Jade Mosquera with two service aces.

UW-Oshkosh raced out to a 10-4 lead in the first set until Beloit College knotted the score at 14. The Titans responded with three consecutive points on Breunig and Sundholm kills along with a double block by Kindt and Sundholm for a 17-14 advantage. The Buccaneers pulled within 20-19, but the Titans finished the set with five straight points as Wolff notched a kill, Nottoli and Pearson combined for a block and Mau delivered a service ace.

The Titans bolted out to large early leads in the second set of 6-2 after a triple block from Breunig, Kindt and Sundholm, and 19-10 following a Kindt termination. UW-Oshkosh went on to tally the final three points of the frame, including a Breunig kill and a Mau service ace on set-point.

Beloit College held its lone lead of the match at 1-0 in the third set. However, UW-Oshkosh scored seven of the next nine points for a 7-3 lead and put the finishing touches on the sweep with a 7-0 run that featured kills from Sundholm, Breunig and Courtney Pearson in addition to a pair of Silbernagel service aces.

UW-Oshkosh finishes the regular season with a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at UW-River Falls on Friday (Oct. 29).
