Former Titan To Guide UW-Stout Volleyball Program

Coaching runs rampant in Mandy Trautmann's family.

Trautmann will officially take over as the head women's volleyball coach at UW-Stout on March 1. After four years as UW-Stout's head coach, Laura Evans resigned effective March 1, to move with her family to southern Minnesota.

"We are pleased to welcome Mandy as our volleyball head coach," UW-Stout athletic director Duey Naatz said in making the announcement. "Throughout the interview process, Mandy proved to us she is the best fit moving forward. She is excited about the opportunity and ready to get to work."

Mandy's mother, Laura, was her high school volleyball coach at Seymour High School. Her father, Lyle, was the girls' high school basketball coach at nearby Clintonville High School. And her sister, Kelli, is the head volleyball coach at the University of Dallas (Texas), an NCAA Division III school.

Trautmann, a four-year standout at UW-Oshkosh, takes over the UW-Stout program after one year as an assistant coach with the Blue Devils.

"Involving my life in volleyball has always been my passion," Trautmann said. "I look forward to working with the women and to continue to develop relationships that we have already instilled.

"Working with Laura and (assistant coach) Pam (Schroeder) has taught me how important the culture in the gym is. No matter what, we all have each other's backs."

Trautmann is familiar with the WIAC, earning honors in the league during her four years at UW-Oshkosh where she is second on the Titans' all-time list for digs. The team's libero, Trautmann earned WIAC Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2015 and was a first team all-region selection and an honorable mention AVCA All-America choice.

Trautmann was the team captain for UW-Oshkosh in 2015 when the Titans captured the WIAC championship. Trautmann was a two-time All-WIAC first team selection in 2014 and 2015, and an honorable mention choice in 2013. She was named to the All-WIAC Defensive Team in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

A December 2016 UW-Oshkosh graduate with a degree in Kinesiology (strength and conditioning emphasis) and a minor in psychology, Trautmann was a Wellness Committee intern in the Shiocton School District and was the varsity volleyball coach at Shiocton High School in 2016.

A native of Seymour, Trautmann has been an assistant coach with the Wisconsin Academy Club and a coach with the Seymour Strikers 16. She has worked a number of summer volleyball camps, and has coached volleyball and basketball in summer leagues in Seymour. Trautmann has also been a WIAA volleyball official.

When the season tips off in the fall, Trautmann will be one of the youngest head coaches among any sport in Blue Devil history. Trautmann shrugs off the age label.

"Life is a journey and it felt like this has been right for me," Trautmann said.

Trautmann will continue work to earn her Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from UW-Stout.
