Titans Register Three-Set Wins Over Vikings, Green Knights

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team improved its record to 14-0 with 3-0 wins over Lawrence University and host St. Norbert College on Wednesday (Sept. 17) in De Pere.

UW-Oshkosh, which totaled 44 kills in each match, defeated Lawrence University, 25-18, 25-11, 25-22, and St. Norbert College, 25-19, 25-23, 25-16. The Titans have now defeated seven of their last eight opponents in three sets.

Katelyn Malcheski hit .418 with 25 kills to lead UW-Oshkosh's attack, while Nerissa Vogt added 24 kills on .467 hitting. The Titans also received 68 assists from Morgan Cizauskas and 47 digs from Mandy Trautmann.

Malcheski and Vogt combined for 24 kills on .522 hitting in the win over Lawrence University.

Malcheski had 13 kills on 25 attempts, while Vogt registered 11 kills on 18 attempts. Brooke Brinkman added 10 kills, Cizauskas 31 assists and Trautmann 26 digs.

UW-Oshkosh never trailed and ended the first set with 18 kills. The Titans held leads of 6-1 and 13-5. Lawrence University pulled within 19-16 before a four-point run that featured two Malcheski kills pushed the Titans' lead back to seven.

The Titans hit .458 and used a 10-point run for an insurmountable 22-8 lead in the second set.

The third set was tied eight times, including for the last time at 20. Leading 23-22, UW-Oshkosh scored the final two points of the set on a Vogt kill and a Rachel Smith service ace.

UW-Oshkosh outhit Lawrence University in the contest, .294 to .140.

Arianna Cohen, Betsy Sorensen and Terese Swords led Lawrence University (4-9) with five kills apiece.

Vogt had match-highs with 13 kills and four blocks to lead UW-Oshkosh over St. Norbert College (4-10).

Malcheski added 12 kills, while Cizauskas had 37 of UW-Oshkosh's 38 assists. Trautmann tallied 21 digs to lead three Titans in double figures.

UW-Oshkosh turned a 12-11 deficit in the first set into a 16-12 lead behind two kills by Malcheski, two Green Knight attack errors and a combo block by Vogt and Lexi Thiel. The Titans used two more three-point runs to put the opening set away.

The second set was tied 17 times, including for the last time at 21. Vogt and Jessica Fischer combined for a block and Vogt registered a kill for a 23-21 UW-Oshkosh lead. The teams exchanged scores before Malcheski recorded a kill on set point.

UW-Oshkosh built third-set leads of 5-1, 9-2 and 14-4 on its way to tying a season high with 19 kills.

The Titans outhit the Green Knights, .218 to .110, and recorded 12 blocks.

Breanne Brocker led St. Norbert College (4-10) with 10 kills.

UW-Oshkosh, one of eight unbeaten teams in the NCAA Division III, opens WIAC play against UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday (Sept. 24) in Kolf Sports Center.
