Pointers, Bluejays Too Strong For Titans

UW-Oshkosh lost the first two sets of each match as it fell to the UW-Stevens Point and Elmhurst College (Ill.) volleyball teams on Wednesday (Sept. 7) in Kolf Sports Center.

The Pointers improved to 5-0 on the season with a 25-23, 25-15, 25-17 win over UW-Oshkosh in the first match of the triangular. Elmhurst College (5-1) then defeated UW-Stevens Point before topping UW-Oshkosh by a 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17 tally.

The Titans (1-5) hit just .022 against UW-Stevens Point, while the Pointers marked a hitting percentage of .247. UW-Stevens Point totaled a hitting advantage of .423-.045 during its strong second set. Christina Brinkman led the victors with 15 kills, as Alexis Hartman served up 24 assists. UW-Oshkosh used six kills apiece from Morgan Nick (Fr. • Fond du Lac) and Kayla Powers (Jr. • Tomahawk).

Elmhurst College dominated at the net thanks to 17 kills on 22 attacks by Megan Reynolds. The Bluejays used that production to take the hitting category, .309-.129. Erin Thill (27 assists) and Katie Rueffer (19) were each vital to the Elmhurst victory. For UW-Oshkosh, Morgan Liebetrau (Jr. • West Bend) booked 33 assists and Jordyn Bratel (So. • Milwaukee) 14 kills. The Titans received 20 digs from Sarah Petermann (So. • Appleton) and 12 more from Bratel.

UW-Oshkosh will host the eight-team Pizza Hut Classic Friday and Saturday (Sept 9-10) in Kolf Sports Center.
