Titans Conquer Green Knights

Christina Cahoon (Sr. • Watertown) became the all-time digs leader in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as the UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team defeated St. Norbert College, 3-1, on Tuesday (Sept. 14) in De Pere.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked seventh in the NCAA Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, won the match in game scores of 25-22, 22-25, 25-16, 25-18.

Cahoon, who needed only two digs to surpass Angie Wildish of UW-Whitewater, wasted little time as she eclipsed the standard early in the first set. With 22 total digs in the match, Cahoon now has 2,386 saves in her career.

UW-Oshkosh (9-1) trailed 13-9 to start the match before responding with a four point run to knot the score at 13-13. Neither team had more than a two point lead until the Titans went up 23-20. Both team traded side-outs for the remainder of the stanza.

Knotted at 9-9 in the second set, the Green Knights went on a 10-2 run to take a 19-11 advantage. UW-Oshkosh got within two points on two different occasions, but could not find their rhythm offensively and fell by three points.

Leading 13-12 in set three, UW-Oshkosh took control of the match by taking 12 of the next 16 points to take a 2-1 lead in sets. The Titans sprinted out to a 10-1 cushion in set four before the Green Knights made things interesting. With UW-Oshkosh winning 20-11, St. Norbert College (7-2) grabbed seven of the next eight points to inch to within 21-18. The Titans responded by earning the next four points to seal the contest.

Aleisha Bagin (So. • West Bend) and Brittany Gruning (So. • Mukwonago) each had nine kills to lead the Titans offensively. Morgan Liebetrau (So. • West Bend) contributed 37 assists, 14 digs and seven kills, Anna Ruhland (Fr. • Mazomanie) 10 digs and Andrea Felton (So. • New Berlin) six kills and three blocks. Larissa Krumplitsch (So. • Appleton), Sarah Petermann (Fr. • Appleton) and Andrea Smith (Sr. • Fond du Lac) both tallied seven kills.
