Titans Sweep Blue Devils

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team beat UW-Stout for the eighth straight time to remain undefeated in the WIAC on Saturday (Oct. 2) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Oshkosh (15-2 / 3-0 WIAC) won in set scores of 25-17, 25-10, 25-21, their seventh sweep during their current winning streak.

The Titans, who played all 17 available players was led by Christina Cahoon (Sr. • Watertown) with 19 digs. Morgan Liebetrau (So. • West Bend) tallied 23 assists and four digs and Alison Tomczyk (Fr. • Oshkosh) dished out 10 assists.

Brittany Murawski (Fr. • Lake Zurich, Ill.) paced UW-Oshkosh with six kills, followed by Brittany Gruning (So. • Mukwonago), Andrea Felton (So. • New Berlin), Aleisha Bagin (So. • West Bend), Jordyn Bratel (Fr. • Milwaukee), Jenna Schwartz (Fr. • Watertown) and Liebetrau with four put downs.

Robyn Eggert (Fr. • Woodridge, Ill.) scooped up eight digs and Felton and Sarah Petermann (Fr. • Appleton) each had six. Schwartz led the Titans with four blocks and Bratel helped out with three of her own.

Set one was tied at 16-16 before UW-Oshkosh scored nine of the last ten points to put the stanza away. After trailing 6-3, the second set was all Titans as they erupted for ten straight points for a 13-6 cushion. The offense wasn't done yet, as they scored the last seven points of the set to claim the 15-point win.

Empting their bench, the Titans pulled out to leads of 10-6 and 15-8 before the Blue Devils fought back. Trailing 19-14, UW-Stout closed to within 21-19 before the Titans sided out and grabbed another point. Both team traded the last four points to account for the final margin.

UW-Stout (1-17 / 0-6) was limited to a -.020 hitting percentage and was paced by the six kills of Katie Mikutowski and Hope Weilage. Mallory White provided 17 assists and eight digs and Kim Labat had a match-high 20 digs.

Next up for UW-Oshkosh is a 7 p.m. showdown with UW-Whitewater on Wednesday, October 6 in Whitewater.
