Three Titans Receive All-WIAC First Team Honors

Anchored by winning its record setting third straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) title, the UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team had three individuals voted to the All-WIAC first team by the league coaches.

Named to the 12-pesron first team from UW-Oshkosh were three-time honoree Christina Cahoon (Sr. • Watertown) and first-time selections Aleisha Bagin (So. • West Bend) and Andrea Smith (Sr. • Fond du Lac). Cahoon was also named to the All-WIAC Defensive Team for the third straight season and Andrea Felton (So. • New Berlin) was named to the WIAC honorable mention team.

Rounding out the All-WIAC first team selections included UW-Eau Claire's Liz Amici and Rachel Ver Voort, UW-Platteville's Melissa Hillebrand, Brianna Kaiser and Ali Sikic, UW-River Falls' Erin Green and UW-Whitewater's Caitlin Hogan, Katy Krajnak and Sofia Sanchez.

Cahoon, a libero, was second in the WIAC with 5.10 digs per set. She started in 31 of the 32 matches she participated in and reached double digit digs in the first 21 matches of the season, including 14 contests of more than 20 digs. She finished the season with 551 digs and 24 service aces in 108 sets played.

Cahoon had a season-high 34 digs against NCAA Division III Tournament participants Northwestern College (Minn.) and Wartburg College (Iowa) and was named to the Lakeland College Invitational All-tournament team. Cahoon concluded her career with a UW-Oshkosh and WIAC record 2,753 digs in 542 sets played. With the award, Cahoon becomes the seventh player at UW-Oshkosh to be named All-WIAC first team three or more times and is the only libero in WIAC history to be named first team all-conference more than one time.

Bagin, a left-side hitter, tallied a league-leading 468 kills on 1,324 attempts in 137 sets played to pace the Titans' offense this season. Bagin also finished second in the WIAC in kills per set. Bagin contributed 110 digs, 42 blocks and 21 service aces and was named the most valuable player of the Lakeland College Invitational and UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic. She tallied double digit kills in 14 of 16 matches played against regional ranked teams, including a career-high 23 kills against UW-Platteville in the WIAC Tournament.

Smith, a left-side hitter, did it all for UW-Oshkosh, amassing 427 digs, 280 kills, 42 service aces and 47 blocks in 138 sets played. Smith finished 10th in the WIAC in service aces and digs per set and was named to the UW-Oshkosh Invitational All-tournament team. She tallied 10 double-doubles during the season and finished her career with 1,633 digs, 1,150 kills, 192 service aces and 151 blocks in 558 sets played. Smith was a WIAC honorable mention selection in 2008.

Felton, a right-side hitter, finished in the top twenty in the WIAC in hitting percentage and kills per set. Felton was named the October 4-11 WIAC Player of the Week and finished the season with 298 kills, 267 assists, 256 digs, 43 blocks and 17 service aces in 136 sets played. She totaled 11 double-doubles on the year and was named to the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic, UW-Oshkosh Invitational and Christopher Newport University All-tournament teams.

Named to the four-member WIAC All-Defensive Team were Cahoon, UW-Eau Claire's Blair Murphy, UW-Platteville's Abby Carey and UW-Whitewater's Alyssa Bauer. With her award, Cahoon becomes the second-player at UW-Oshkosh to be named to the WIAC All-Defensive Team three times and improves the Titans' streak of six straight years of having somebody named to the team.

UW-Eau Claire's Kim Wudi was voted the league's Coach of the Year for the second time in her career after earning the prize in 2008. Hogan was named the league's most valuable player after being named first-team all-conference last two seasons.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. Named to the squad were UW-Eau Claire's Amanda Lessner, UW-La Crosse's Liz Schlobohm, UW-Oshkosh's Brittney Cote (Jr. • Orland Park, Ill.), UW-Platteville's Lisa Schumacher, UW-River Falls' Samantha Kaminski, UW-Stevens Point's Kaitlin Wolfe, UW-Stout's Stephanie Nichols, UW-Superior's Kitty Tynen and UW-Whitewater's Kelli Trautmann.
