Titans Split With Yellowjackets, Saints

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team defeated UW-Superior for the 23rd straight time in a 25-14, 25-9, 25-22 WIAC victory on Saturday (Oct. 16) in Superior. With a win over UW-La Crosse on Wednesday (Oct. 20) the Titans will win at least a share of the WIAC title for the third consecutive season.

Seven players recorded at least three kills as all 15 available UW-Oshkosh players received court time. Morgan Liebetrau (So. • West Bend) dished out 11 assists and Alison Tomczyk (Fr. • Oshkosh) added 10 to pace the offense.

UW-Oshkosh (21-4) held a 14-1 advantage in service aces to record the sweep. Andrea Smith (Sr. • Fond du Lac) had four, Jessie Schira (Jr. • Wausau) and Sarah Petermann (Fr. • Appleton) three and Robyn Eggert (Fr. • Woodridge, Ill.) and Liebetrau two each.

The Titans also had Brittany Murawski (Fr. • Lake Zurich, Ill.) and Peterman each have seven digs, while Liebetrau and Smith totaled six. Brittany Gruning (So. • Mukwonago) piled up three blocks to pace UW-Oshkosh at the net.

Jessica Zimmerman had a match-high six kills to lead UW-Superior. Bekka Morton had 16 digs and Sarah Gruber provided 15 assists.

The Titans completed the day by traveling to The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.). The Titans suffered just their second loss in their last 23 five-set matches in a 25-16, 25-19, 16-25, 23-25, 15-13 setback to the Saints.

Aleisha Bagin (So. • West Bend) led the team with 19 kills and three service aces. Petermann added a career-high 30 digs and Liebetrau dished out 46 assists. Smith added 17 digs and 11 kills and Andrea Felton (So. • New Berlin) and Gruning each had 10 kills. Bagin and Anna Ruhland (Fr. • Mazomanie) each collected seven digs and Gruning provided five blocks.

Paige Hardy led The College of St. Scholastica (21-6) with 19 kills and 14 digs. Anna Zyvoloski added 13 kills, Sarah Kurtovich 41 assists and Nikki Hughes had 28 digs. Molly Roith added 18 digs and Jenny Kienzle 12.
