Titans, Captains Collide In Quarterfinal Round Of NCAA Championship

UW-Oshkosh appears in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship for the second consecutive season when it battles Christopher Newport University (Va.) on Thursday (Nov. 19) in University Heights, Ohio.

Quarterfinal round action begins at 12:30 p.m. (EST) on Thursday as Colorado College (35-4) plays nine-time NCAA Division III champion Washington University (Mo.) (31-4). That game is followed by a 3 p.m. (EST) contest between Hope College (Mich.) (33-3) and Tufts University (Mass.) (31-4).

Thursday's schedule concludes with matches at 5:30 p.m. (EST) between two-time NCAA Division III champion Juniata College (Pa.) (34-3) and Trinity University (Texas) (30-11) and 8 p.m. (EST) between Christopher Newport University (36-6) and UW-Oshkosh (38-2).

Activity continues on Friday (Nov. 20) with semifinal round contests at 4:30 p.m. (EST) and 7 p.m. (EST). If UW-Oshkosh defeats Christopher Newport University, the Titans will play the winner between Juniata College and Trinity University in the 7 p.m. (EST) semifinal.

The national championship match of the 62-team tournament takes place at 7 p.m. (EST) on Saturday (Nov. 21).

UW-Oshkosh is competing in its 14th (1990-91, 1993-97, 2000-01, 2005-09) NCAA Division III postseason tournament. The Titans finished second in the country in 1994 and fourth in both 1991 and 1996. UW-Oshkosh suffered a 3-0 loss to Juniata College in last year's quarterfinal round.

Juniata College is appearing in its 29th NCAA Division III Championship, while its the 23rd visit for Washington University, 20th for Colorado College, 18th for Trinity University, seventh for both Christopher Newport University and Hope College and fourth for Tufts University.

Six of the eight teams competing in the quarterfinal round are ranked nationally by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Juniata College is the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division III, while UW-Oshkosh is ranked second, Washington University fourth, Hope College sixth, Colorado College 13th and Trinity University 18th.
