Madigan Named Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award

MADISON, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh's Cyna Madigan has been named the recipient of the 2024 WIAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.
 
Madigan, a junior from Rosendale, Wis. (Laconia), is majoring in mathematics with a minor in risk management & business analytics. She maintains a 3.70 grade point average and is a two-time selection on the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team. Madigan is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and has been recognized on UW-Oshkosh's Dean's List and Honor Roll numerous semesters.
 
A team captain this season, she recorded second-place finishes in the 800-meter run and 4x400-meter relay at the WIAC Championship. Last year, Madigan secured All-America honors with a third-place finish in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Division III Championship. She added USTFCCCA All-North Region recognition and was the conference champion in the 800-meter run. Madigan ranks in the top-five in program history in the 800-meter run.
 
She is a member of UW-Oshkosh's math club and has volunteered with the Titan 5k charity run/walk, Fox Cities Marathon, and International Walk to School Day. Madigan has worked as a mathematics tutor on campus and on the Experimental Aircraft Association Grounds in Oshkosh.
 
Also nominated for this year's scholar-athlete award were:  UW-Eau Claire's Jane Kautz (Grad., Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington); UW-La Crosse's Maddy Vantassel (Sr., Appleton, Wis./West); UW-Platteville's Alexis Healey (Sr., Rensselaer, Ind./Central); UW-River Falls' Megan Halbach (Sr., Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert); UW-Stevens Point's Gabri Gaines (Sr., Madison, Wis./Memorial); UW-Stout's Arely Jaime Luevano (Jr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo); and UW-Whitewater's Rebecca Lawrence (Jr., Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander).
 
The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Judy Kruckman who served as Assistant Commissioner for the WIAC from 1996-98. Prior to this appointment, she was Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WWIAC) from October, 1984 - September, 1996. Kruckman was the women's athletics director at UW-Eau Claire from 1974-84, and one of the original representatives to the WWIAC when it formed in 1971. She was inducted into the WIAC Hall of Fame in 2012.

In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, she must be in her last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years. The award is based on academic achievements, athletics accomplishments and involvement in other campus activities, organizations and community service projects.
