WIAC Student-Athlete Spotlight: Brenna Masloroff

Each week during the 2023-24 academic year, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) will feature two student-athletes (one male and one female) from one of its eight institutions for a "Student-Athlete Spotlight" Q & A segment. The segments will be posted every Thursday and individuals are selected by the institution. The WIAC Student-Athlete Spotlights are presented by Culver's. Why did you choose UW-Oshkosh?
I chose UW-Oshkosh for the aspect of its great education program. I want to be the best teacher I can be. By attending UWO, I am being provided a higher education to better the future generations. Also, I felt very connected with the team on my visits, which helped me feel comfortable coming in my freshman year!

National Residence Hall Honorary

What do you like most about competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete?
Becoming an NCAA Division III student-athlete was one of the best decisions I made for myself. I enjoy the competitive atmosphere and being able to travel around the country with my teammates. While competing in the NCAA is great, it is an honor to compete in one of the best conferences in the nation. I love the competitiveness of the WIAC. Regarding track & field, for most events, if you are top-three or even on the podium at the conference, you most likely have qualified for nationals. I'm grateful to have the ability to compete against the best of the best every week to help push myself towards greatness.

What is your greatest sports moment?
March 2023 when I won my first All-America at indoor nationals in the weight throw. It meant so much to have my family there supporting me and being able to share the moment. Also, after my final throw, I walked over to my coach (Brittany Van Damme) and she gave me a big hug to congratulate me.

What is your favorite thing to do off the court/field with your teammates?
As throwers, we enjoy eating! We have a lot of team dinners together then end up playing a variety of games all night. Most recently, our favorite activity is karaoke.

Who is someone that you look up to?
I look up to my younger sister, Abi. She is an extremely strong individual in all aspects of life. I admire how she stands up for herself and others. Her dedication to things she is passionate about is unmatched. Abi makes this world a better place every day and I'm grateful enough to have been impacted by her.

Do you have any words of advice for younger/upcoming student-athletes?
Growing up everyone said middle school was going to go by fast, then suddenly, I am graduating high school. Now I am a senior in college. Take in all the moments, good and bad. Looking back on my college career, I do not regret anything. Learning from your mistakes allows you to develop your athletic ability and, grow as a person. While time will go fast when we wish it wouldn't, be sure to take a second and reflect. Recognize all the good, the laughs, the bad, the teammates, and everything in between. Four years is never enough so we must make the best of it.

One word that describes you?
Outgoing.

What is your dream job?
My dream job is to be a special education teacher. I want to make a difference in all my students' lives. By working with students with disabilities, I can provide them with the support and attention they need to become successful. My main goal is to support my future students to the point that they don't need my help anymore. Meaning I have done my job of providing them with the proper knowledge and tools to complete tasks independently.

Three things on your "bucket list"?
---Attend the Olympics.
---Run a marathon.
---Own my own home.

A non-athletic talent that you have is?
Organization.

Do you have any pre-game/pre-event superstitions or rituals? If so, what are they?
I must wear the same clothes for every competition (washed, of course)
