McKenna Named North Region Assistant Coach Of The Year

UW-Oshkosh distance running coach Eamon McKenna was chosen as the 2022 NCAA Division III North Region Women's Indoor Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

In his 11th year assisting the UW-Oshkosh women's track & field program, McKenna coached athletes this indoor season to several high performances at the conference, regional and national levels.

At the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship held Feb. 25-26 in Platteville, UW-Oshkosh's Alexandria Demco was named Track Performer of the Meet after winning the 800-meter and mile runs and helping the distance medley relay squad to a first-place finish.

UW-Oshkosh finished third in the team competition at the WIAC Championship with 97 points. The Titans' overall production included 19 points scored in the 800-meter run, 18 in the mile run and 13 in the relays.

UW-Oshkosh owns four of the top nine performances in the 800-meter run, three of the top 11 efforts in the mile run and the third-best accomplishment in the 3,000-meter run regionally. The Titans also rank first in the North Region in the distance medley and sixth in the 1,600-meter relays.

Nationally, UW-Oshkosh possesses three of the top 21 performances in the 800-meter run and two of the top 23 efforts in the mile run. The Titans also rank second in the country in the distance medley relay.

Demco will compete in the 800-meter run at this weekend's Division III Championship in Winston-Salem, N.C. She will also race with Libby Geisness, Hannah Lohrenz and Cyna Madigan in the distance medley relay. The national meet will be held Friday and Saturday (March 11-12) at the JDL Fast Track.

McKenna has assisted the women's track & field program at UW-Oshkosh since 2012 and the men's track & field program since 2016. He was the head men's track & field coach at UW-Oshkosh from 2013-15.

McKenna has been head coach of the men's cross country program at UW-Oshkosh since 2012 and the women's cross country program since 2015.

UW-Oshkosh captured Division III women's indoor track & field titles in 2013 and 2014, the WIAC women's indoor track & field championship in 2012 and the WIAC women's cross country title in 2015.

The Oconomowoc High School graduate competed for the men's cross country program at UW-Oshkosh from 1999-2002 and the men's track & field program from 2000-04. The Titans captured conference, regional and national cross country championships in 2002 while also winning the WIAC title in 2000. McKenna was a four-time All-America performer, including three in track & field.

McKenna received his bachelor's degree from UW-Oshkosh in 2004 and his master's degree from UW-Milwaukee in 2008.

UW-La Crosse's Nickolas Davis was selected as the Division III North Region Women's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year.
