Thompson Named Co-Field Performer Of The Meet From NCAA Championship

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named UW-Oshkosh's Sydney Thompson and University of Chicago's (Ill.) Isabel Maletich Co-Field Performers of the Meet from the NCAA Division III Women's Track & Field Championship held May 27-29 in Greensboro, N.C.

Thompson, a senior, threw to victories in both the discus and shot put competitions while finishing ninth at the championship in the hammer throw. The individual national outdoor titles by Thompson, who transferred to UW-Oshkosh from Division II Minnesota State University, Mankato following the 2019 season, were the 49th and 50th in program history.

Thompson was seeded third in the discus and won the event with a season-best measurement of 153-4. She achieved her winning mark on the first of six throws. Linnaea Konfrst of Nebraska Wesleyan University placed second to Thompson with a cast of 152-0.

Thompson entered the shot put activity as the top seed and won the event with a season-best distance of 49-11 3/4. She obtained her winning distance on the third of six throws. Megan Gehrke of the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) finished second in the competition with a toss of 49-10.

Thompson additionally finished ninth in the hammer throw with a measurement of 165-3.

Thompson was also named Field Performer of the Meet at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship held May 7-8 in River Falls. She took first place in both the discus and shot put events at the meet while finishing fifth in the hammer throw.

Maletich, a junior, leaped to victories in both the long and triple jumps at this year's Division III Championship. She won the long jump with a measurement of 19-3 1/2 and the triple jump with a distance of 40-7 1/2. Maletich was also the Field Performer of the Meet at the 2019 Division III Championship.

The USTFCCCA chose Emily Pomainville of State University of New York at Geneseo as its Track Performer of the Meet from this year's Division III Championship.

UW-Oshkosh accumulated 31 points to finish seventh in the team standings at the 2021 Division III Championship. Loras College (Iowa) scored 58 points to win its second consecutive title while UW-La Crosse placed second with 56 and State University of New York at Geneseo third with 49.

Thompson is the seventh Titan to earn a Performer of the Meet award from the Division III Outdoor Championship. Previous UW-Oshkosh honorees were Melissa Mueller (1994 - Field/Track), Tara (Harding) Jaeger (1997 - Field/Track), Robyn Jarocki (2006 - Field), Ellie Sitek (2010 - Field), Holly Ozanich (2011 - Field) and Christy Cazzola (2013 - Track & 2014 - Track).
