UW-Oshkosh Finishes Second In 13-Team Titan Challenge

UW-Oshkosh tuned up for next weekend's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship by finishing second among 13 programs at the Titan Challenge it hosted Saturday (Feb. 22) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Eau Claire captured the team title with 112 points while UW-Oshkosh placed second with 91, UW-Stout third with 71, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 59.5 and Ripon College fifth with 43. The Titans scored 20 of their points in the 800-meter run and 12 in the 200-meter dash.

Winning event titles for UW-Oshkosh were Libby Geisness in the 800-meter run, Sadie Huth in the 60-meter hurdles and Amanda Van Den Plas in the mile run.

Geisness defeated 44 other contestants in the 800-meter run with her season-best time of 2:15.76. The time earned by Geisness also ranks 11th this season in the NCAA Division III.

UW-Oshkosh had two other scorers in the 800-meter run as Hannah Lohrenz finished third and Alexandra Demco fifth with times of 2:17.03 and 2:21.23, respectively. The time recorded by Lohrenz ranks 22nd nationally.

Huth beat 28 other participants in the 60-meter hurdles with her season-best time of 9.12 seconds. Huth ranks 42nd nationally following her performance in Saturday's meet.

Van Den Plas outran 37 other contestants in the mile run with her time of 5:18.47. Van Den Plas ranks 36th nationally with her season-best time of 5:06.42 recorded at the UW-Stevens Point Big Dawg Invitational held Feb. 8.

UW-Oshkosh's Mikayla Jackson finished second and Morgan Endries fifth in the 200-meter dash with their times of 26.19 and 26.49 seconds, respectively. Jackson also placed fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.917 seconds.

The Titans had two other scorers in the 60-meter dash, Taylor Pralle who finished fourth with a season-best time of 7.89 seconds and Kyra Huber who placed eighth in 7.98. Pralle ranks 46th in the country after Saturday's sprint while Huber ranks 42nd with her season-best time of 7.88 seconds achieved at the UW-Oshkosh Early Bird Invitational held Dec. 7.

Morgan Florek scored twice for the Titans after finishing fourth in the 20-pound weight throw with her season-best measurement of 57-2 1/4 and seventh in the shot put with a distance of 42-5 1/4. Florek's performance on Saturday in the 20-pound weight throw ranks 14th in the country. She also lists 28th nationally in the shot put with her season-best throw of 43-0 1/4 earned against Lawrence University on Jan. 18.

UW-Oshkosh's Cara Volz claimed this year's 24th-best triple jump measurement in Division III with her third-place and season-best mark of 37-6.

The Titans' remaining fourth-place finish went to the 1,600-meter relay group of Demco, Geisness, Lohrenz and Pralle. The quartet combined for a time of 4:04.79.

UW-Oshkosh also received a fifth-place skip of 36-3 in the triple jump from Danae Prange, a sixth-place throw of 42-6 3/4 in the shot put from Sydney Thompson and a seventh-place leap of 17-1 1/4 in the long jump from Amanda Starzynski. Thompson ranks 20th nationally in the shot put with her season-best measurement of 43-9 documented at the UW-Oshkosh Early Bird Invitational and Prange 50th in the triple jump with her season-best distance of 36-7 marked at the UW-Whitewater Midwest ELITE Invitational held Feb. 15.

Emma Warr and Mikaela Zolecki acquired eighth-place results for the Titans with their measurements of 10-2 1/2 in the pole vault and 50-11 in the 20-pound weight throw, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh will host the 44th Annual WIAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 28-29) in Kolf Sports Center. The 13-time WIAC champion Titans finished fourth with 77 points at last year's conference championship.
