Titans Begin Season With Successful Presentation

Freshman Kyra Huber won a pair of sprints while running on a second-place relay as UW-Oshkosh opened its 2019-20 women's indoor track & field season with a dominating victory at its own Early Bird Invitational held Saturday (Dec. 7) in Kolf Sports Center.

Huber helped UW-Oshkosh score 24 points in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes with her winning times of 7.88 seconds and 26.69 seconds, respectively. She also joined Alexandra Demco, Erika Mullen and Lauren Rabe for a second-place run of 4:12.62 in the 1,600-meter relay.

The 60-meter dash also featured Titans Mikayla Jackson finishing fourth with a time of 8.08 seconds, Amanda Starzynski fifth in 8.10, Taylor Pralle sixth in 8.11 and Morgan Endries seventh in 8.23.

In the 200-meter dash, UW-Oshkosh also had Starzynski finish second with a time of 26.92 seconds, Endries fifth in 27.02 and Jackson seventh in 27.27. 

UW-Oshkosh scored 25 points in the 800-meter run as Libby Geisness placed first with a time of 2:18.81, Melissa Srnka third in 2:23.40, Breanna Van Den Plas fourth in 2:25.98 and Demco fifth in 2:6.80.

The Titans also counted 24 points in the triple jump as Cara Volz finished first with a measurement of 35-9 1/4 while Danae Prange placed second at 34-4 and Hanna Gray third at 32-5.

Other event winners on the track for UW-Oshkosh were Hannah Lohrenz in the mile run with a time of 5:11.25, Ashton Keene in the 3,000-meter run with a performance of 10:22.44 and Katie Retzlaff in the 60-meter hurdles with an effort of 9.73 seconds.

Titan Emma Warr won the pole vault with a height of 10-11 3/4.

Adding second-place finishes for UW-Oshkosh were Mullen in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:03.16, Grace Tempesta in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.90 seconds and Alexis Reichardt in the high jump with a leap of 5-1.

Completing the Titans' third-place results were Amanda Van Den Plas with her time of 5:16.51 in the mile run, Morgan Florek with her cast of 52-8 1/4 in the 20-pound weight throw and Sydney Thompson with her measurement of 43-9 in the shot put. Thompson's distance would have qualified her for last year's NCAA Division III Indoor Championship.

UW-Oshkosh also received a fourth-place finish of 42-7 in the shot put from Florek and fifth-place results of 10:52.61 in the 3,000-meter run from Urban, 10-0 in the pole vault from Taylor Christensen and 40-6 3/4 in the shot put from Katie Fruth.

Supplying additional sixth-place listings for the Titans were Meygan Benzing in the mile run and Sadie Huth in the 60-meter hurdles. Benzing and Huth recorded times of 5:27.47 and 11.15 seconds, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh's group of place winners concluded with the seventh-place finishes of Grace Baldwin in the pole vault and Thompson in the 20-pound weight throw and the eighth-place results of Theresa Richards in the pole vault and Allie Marineau in the shot put. Baldwin and Richards both recorded heights of 9-6 1/4 while Thompson and Marineau marked measurements of 48-6 3/4 and 38-9 1/2, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh used its nine event victories to capture the team title with 226 points. 

Carroll University finished second among the 10 competing teams with 94 points while St. Norbert College placed third with 80, Carthage College fourth with 36 and Lake Forest College (Ill.) fifth with 34.

UW-Oshkosh is idle until it hosts Lawrence and Marian universities on Jan. 18 in Kolf Sports Center.
