Three Titans To Compete At Indoor Track & Field Nationals

Senior Lauren Wrensch is seeded among the top eight competitors in three events to headline nine-time national champion UW-Oshkosh's entrants for the NCAA Division III Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship that will be held this Friday and Saturday (March 8-9) in Boston, Mass.

Senior Cheyenne Moore will represent UW-Oshkosh as the third seed in the 5,000-meter run, while Titan junior Amanda Van Den Plas is seeded 14th in the mile run.

Competition at the 35th Division III Championship will be held in the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. The top 20 individuals and 12 relay teams earned their way to the national meet based on results throughout the season. The top eight finishers in each event at the Division III Championship will earn All-America status.

Wrensch is the top seed in the long jump with her qualifying distance of 19-4 3/4. She also enters as the fifth seed in the 400-meter run with a time of 56.17 seconds and the eighth seed in the 200-meter dash with her time of 24.94.

Sarah King from George Fox University (Ore.) is the top seed in both the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter run with respective times of 24.34 and 54.27.

Wrensch, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion in the long jump and 400-meter run, is seeking her first All-America accolade. She finished 11th in the long jump last season in her first appearance at the national meet.

Moore's third-seeded time of 16:41.67 in the 5,000-meter run trails only the 16:27.30 put up by top-seeded Kaitlyn Mooney of United States Coast Guard Academy (Conn.) and the 16:27.99 by second-seeded Cassie Vince from Albion College (Mich.).

Moore, who will be running her fourth career race at the national indoor championship, placed 13th in the 5,000-meter run a year ago and 14th in the event in 2017. Moore, the 2017 WIAC champion at 5,000 meters and 2019 conference winner at 3,000 meters, also finished 10th in the 3,000-meter run at the Division III Championship last season.

Van Den Plas is making her national championship debut, qualifying with a time of 5:02.05 in the mile run. Emily Bryson from Brandeis University (Mass.) is seeded first in the event with a time of 4:45.58.

University of Massachusetts Boston is the defending national champion. The Beacons claimed their fourth title and first since winning the first three Division III championships in 1985, 1986 and 1987 by scoring 46 points.

Williams College (Mass.) placed second in the team standings last season with 37 points. Rounding out the top five teams were Ohio Northern University in third with 30 points and a three-way tie for fourth among Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.), Nebraska Wesleyan University and UW-Eau Claire with 27 points each.

UW-Oshkosh finished in a tie for 50th last year with three points. The Titans have scored at least three points at each of the past 33 Division III indoor championships.

Washington University enters the 2019 Division III championship ranked first in the country by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Williams College is second in the USTFCCCA rankings, followed UW-La Crosse in third, George Fox University in fourth and Wheaton College (Ill.) in fifth. UW-Oshkosh heads into the national meet ranked eighth in the country.

UW-Oshkosh claimed its division-record nine national titles in 1994, 1995, 1996, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2011, 2013 and 2014. No other Division III school has won more than six team championships. The Titans also produced a record seven national runner-up finishes in 1990, 1991, 1992, 2002, 2010, 2012 and 2015.
