Titans Host Pointers In WIAC Tournament Semifinal

UW-Oshkosh matches up with defending league champion UW-Stevens Point in the WIAC Women's Basketball Tournament on Friday (Feb. 22) at 7 p.m. in Kolf Sports Center.

The third-seeded Pointers (21-5), who've won the last five conference tournaments, are ranked 21st by D3hoops.com. UW-Oshkosh (20-5) is seeded second. The winner of this semifinal will either travel to #1 UW-Whitewater or host #4 UW-Superior in the WIAC Championship final on Sunday (Feb. 24).

UW-Stevens Point advanced in the tournament by defeating UW-Eau Claire, 67-57, on Wednesday.

Friday's contest will feature the two best defenses in the WIAC. UW-Oshkosh tops the league by allowing just 50.5 points per game, while UW-Stevens Point yields 55.1. The Pointers also lead the conference in shooting offense (45 percent) and defense (35 percent).

The Titans lead the WIAC with 77 percent free throw shooting (third in NCAA Division III). UW-Oshkosh has outscored its opponents by 179 points at the foul line.

In their first meeting this season, UW-Stevens Point earned a 64-55 home victory on Dec. 5. UW-Oshkosh then returned the favor with a 56-53 decision in Oshkosh on Feb. 6. The all-time series between these squads belongs to the Titans by a 45-44 margin.

The top seed has won the WIAC Tournament in 12 of its 14 years. UW-Oshkosh captured the title during 1999.
