Titans Win Five Events, Place Third At WIAC Championship

Alexandria Demco and Ashton Keene won two events apiece and Cara Volz one as UW-Oshkosh finished third at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship (presented by Culver's) held Friday and Saturday (May 6-7) in La Crosse.

Demco successfully defended her titles in the 800- and 1,500-meter runs with winning times of 2:14.40 and 4:29.84, respectively.

Demco defeated 17 other contestants in the 800-meter run, including Katie Banie of UW-La Crosse who finished second with a time of 2:15.93 and UW-Oshkosh's Libby Geisness who placed fourth in 2:17.53. Demco advanced to the event's final with a preliminary time of 2:10.38 that ranks fourth in the NCAA Division III this outdoor season.

In the 1,500-meter run, Demco outran 19 other challengers, including Maddie Hannan of UW-La Crosse who finished second with a time of 4:32.73.

Keene recorded her victories by defeating 20 other participants in both the 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs with times of 17:53.46 and 37:03.96, respectively. Rachel Krouse of UW-Stevens Point finished second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:55.42 while UW-La Crosse's Rachel Jeffers placed second in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 37:12.68.

Volz captured first place among 20 entrants in the javelin with a throw of 125-3 that was measured on her last attempt. UW-Stout's Raegan Sorensen finished second in the event with a distance of 124-11. Volz was the winner of the triple jump competition at the 2018 WIAC Outdoor Championship.

UW-Oshkosh's Riley Kindt placed in three events by finishing second in the long jump with a leap of 18-4 1/4, fifth in the high jump with a height of 5-0 1/4 and seventh in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.95 seconds. Kindt moved from eighth to second place in the long jump on her last attempt.

Kindt additionally ran with Rachel Castelli, Andrea Glaz and Kyra Huber for a third-place time of 48.13 seconds in the 400-meter relay.

The Titans also had Brenna Masloroff finish fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 164-2, Katie Fruth fifth in the shot put with a toss of 46-1 1/4 and Castelli sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.22 seconds.

UW-Oshkosh's 1,600-meter relay team of Geisness, Vanessa Jenneman, Erika Mullen and Alaina Wagner placed seventh with a time of 4:04.61.

The top finisher in each event received all-conference first team status while the runner-up secured second team accolades and the third-place performer honorable mention recognition.

UW-Oshkosh, an 11-time WIAC champion, placed third in the team standings with 88.5 points. The Titans have now placed in the top three at 32 of the last 36 conference outdoor championships.

UW-La Crosse scored 293.5 points to win its 10th straight WIAC outdoor title and 36th overall. UW-Eau Claire finished second to the Eagles with 137 points while UW-Oshkosh placed third, UW-Stout fourth with 87, UW-Whitewater fifth with 57, UW-Stevens Point sixth with 56, UW-River Falls seventh with 52 and UW-Platteville eighth with 48.  

The 2022 WIAC Outdoor Championship showcased three programs ranked in the Top 24 of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's NCAA Division III Rating Index – top-ranked UW-La Crosse, 14th-ranked UW-Eau Claire and 24th-ranked UW-Platteville.

UW-Oshkosh athletes will compete in a variety of last chance qualifying meets over the next two weeks before participating at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship on May 26-28 in Geneva, Ohio.
