Cornelius Wins Third-Straight High Jump Title As Titans Finish Second At WIAC Championship

WHITEWATER, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh men's track & field team finished the second day of competition in the WIAC Championship (presented by Culver's) in Whitewater on Saturday (Feb. 24) with 161 total points for second place.

UW-La Crosse won the team title with 242.5 points and UW-Eau Claire finished third with 85. UW-Whitewater (73), UW-Stout (48.5), UW-Stevens Point (23), UW-Platteville (20) and UW-River Falls (9) took the following five spots.

Caleb Cornelius (Jr. • Racine) was Oshkosh's event winner on Saturday, collecting a first-place finish on the high jump for the third consecutive year with a height of 2.10 meters. The height tied his personal record that is the third-highest mark in program history. Kyle Wisniewski (Fr. • New London) followed Cornelius with a height of 2.07 meters for second place, which places eighth in program history.

Aden Sears (Jr. • Eureka, Ill.) ran a program record time of 8.02 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles final round to finish second in the event. Charlie Nolan (So. • Normal, Ill.) also qualified for the final round and took fourth in 8.24 seconds, the fourth-fastest in school history.

Davian Willems (So. • De Pere) was the first of four Titans to finish in the 60-meter dash final with a time of 6.74 seconds for second place. Danny Vinson (Sr. • Berrien Springs, Mich.) took third in 6.79 seconds; the time is also the third-fastest in program history. Joey Kean (Sr. • Middleton) ran a 6.80 for fourth, which sits fourth in the program record book and Ray Talbert (Jr. • Waterloo, Iowa) moved up to sixth in program history with a fifth place time of 6.82 seconds.

Londyn Little (Jr. • Columbia, Ill.) raced a 21.85 in the 200-meter dash for second place, joined in the top eight by Rashaad Henderson (Sr. • Racine) in 21.88 seconds for third, Nolan Milas (Fr. • Virgil, Ill.) in 22.16 seconds for sixth and Dylan Gramley (So. • Plainfield, Ill.) in 22.23 second for eighth.

Cavan Dobberstein (Fr. • Manawa) scored 4,867 points to grab second in the heptathlon, which is also the seventh-highest total score in program history. Payton White (Sr. • Berrien Springs, Mich.) took third with 4,829 points, Matthew Ewens (So. • New Berlin) took fourth with 4,707 points and Cole Spanbauer (So. • Oshkosh) took eighth with 4,611 points.

Henderson, Matthew Eiden (Fr. • Stevens Point), Devin Williams (So. • Oshkosh) and Little ran in the 4x400-meter relay, placing third with a 3:19.44 finish.

JV Myles (Fr. • Germantown) finished the triple jump in third place with a 14.22-meter mark. Caleb Wright (So. • Oswego, Ill.) also placed in the top-eight by jumping 13.87 meters.

In the 800-meter run, Dwight Hosni (Jr. • Cedarburg) placed fifth with a 1:53.96 time and Lucas Nicholson (Fr. • Pewaukee) finished seventh in 1:54.36.

Jake Buss (Fr. • Poynette) took seventh in the 35-lb. weight throw by tossing 17.49 meters.

The Titans will head to UW-La Crosse to compete in the Eagles' Final Qualifier next Saturday (Mar. 2) at 1 p.m.
