Potter Leads Titans to Second in WIAC Championships with Two Event Wins

MENOMONIE, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh men's track and field team placed second in the two-day WIAC Championships hosted by UW-Stout. They scored 141.333 points, behind UW-La Crosse's 228 points.

UW-Whitewater took third with 80.33 points, followed by UW-Eau Claire (68.33), UW-Stout (66), UW-Platteville (47), UW-Stevens Point (20) and UW-River Falls (11).

Track Events

Senior Steven Potter earned his first All-WIAC First Team nod in the mile run with a first place, 4:10.19 finish.

Freshman Devin Williams tied for second in the 400-meter dash with a 49.27 second finish, earning All-WIAC Second Team. Sophomore Jaylen Grant took eighth, finishing in 50.05 seconds.

In the 5,000-meter run, freshman Paul Proteau grabbed sixth place with a team season best time of 14:55.46.

The distance medley relay team placed third, grabbing the All-WIAC Third Team nod, running the race in 10:15.52.

Junior Elijah Pena grabbed fourth with an 8.28 second finish in the 60-meter hurdles

Sophomore Keegan Cullison and Grant took second and sixth in the 60-meter dash with times of 6.81 and 6.92 seconds, respectively. Cullison earned All-WIAC Second Team honors for his finish.

Potter earned his second All-WIAC First Team nod with a 1:52.59 time in the 800-meter run. Junior Reid Marquardt took fifth with a time of 1:54.32 and sophomore Dwight Hosni took eighth with a time of 1:56.21.

In the 200-meter dash, junior Rashaad Henderson finished in 22.14 seconds, taking fourth place.

The 4x400-meter relay team finished in fourth, running in 3:21.95.

Field Events

Freshman Kieran Maude earned third place and an All-WIAC Third Team nod with a 15.36-meter effort in the shot put. Freshman Isaiah Isom took fifth with a 14.90-meter throw.

Sophomore Ak Toheeb-Lawal won the long jump, earning All-WIAC First Team honors, jumping a team season best 7.21 meters, also ranking third in program history. Freshmen Caleb Wright and Elijah McCauley and junior RJ Bosshart took fifth through seventh with marks of 6.90, 6.82 and 6.80 meters, respectively. 

In the pole vault, senior Eli Tranel finished in second with a 4.89-meter effort, followed in sixth by sophomore Zach Zirgibel's 4.59-meter mark.

Senior Jonathan Wilburn earned first and All-WIAC First Team honors with a 15.26-meter jump in the triple jump. Freshman Charlie Nolan followed in fifth, jumping a personal season best 14.26 meters.

Sophomore Caleb Cornelius won the high jump and All-WIAC First Team with a 2.04-meter mark and Nolan took eighth with 1.89 meters.

Multi Events

In the heptathlon, junior Payton White placed fifth with 4,569 points and two top-eight event finishes. He won the 60-meter dash in 7.09 seconds and placed third in the long jump with a mark of 6.53 meters. Freshman Matthew Ewens finished third and freshman Cole Spanbauer finished fifth in the high jump with jumps of 1.89 and 1.86 meters. Ewens took fifth in the pole vault, vaulting 3.89 meters.

Post-Meet Awards

Jamyle Brantley was named the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete of the indoor season and Andrew Rathkamp was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team after the meet concluded.

The Titans return to action on Saturday, March 4 to compete in the Ripon College Final Qualifier.
