Titans Earn Decisive First Place Finish in Ripon Winter Open

RIPON, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh men's indoor track and field team scored 278 points in a decisive first place finish at the Ripon College (Wis.) Winter Open over Dec. 2nd and 3rd. The Titans took first in 10 of the 18 events at the meet.

Carroll University (Wis.) finished in second with 92 points, followed by St. Norbert College (Wis.) with 89 points. The rest of the field filled out with Ripon (45 pts.), Viterbo University (Wis.) (40 pts.), Concordia University (Wis.) (33 pts.) and Edgewood College (Wis.) (9 pts.).

Davian Willems tied his own school record he shares with Jaylen Grant with 6.72 second finish in the 60-meter dash. The finish was good for the sixth fastest time in NCAA Division III history. Four other Titans filling out the top-five finishers; Jaylen Grant (6.86), Keegan Cullison (6.92) (a personal record), Danny Vinson (6.94) and Brett Clavijo (6.97) (a personal record).

Elijah Pena took the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.50. Michael Campbell finished in third, with a time of 8.64.

In the 200-meter dash, four Titans took the top finishes. Rashaad Henderson took first with a time of 22.46, Grant finished in second (22.52), Cullison finished in third (23.05) and Dylan Gramley filled out the top-four with a time of 23.27.

The 400-meter dash was dominated by Oshkosh as well. Londyn Little took first (49.62), Ryan Potter took second (49.85), Weston Lerdal took third (51.93), Caiden Hoeppner took fourth (53.06), Damareyon Taylor took fifth (54.68) and Reid Marquardt took sixth (54.68).

The Titans didn't win the 800-meter run but took second with a 1:58.17 time from Jelani Lawson and third with a time of 1:58.57 from Nick Vey.

Besides a fifth-place finish by Carroll, Oshkosh took the rest of the top-13 finishes with the one-mile run. Steven Potter won the event in 4:13.98, followed by Jake Krause (4:15.78), Andrew Rathkamp (4:15.93) and Dwight Hosni (4:19.50). Andrew George, Cameron Cullen, Paul Proteau, Joe Kehoe, Trent Chadwick, Owen Bostwick, Marquardt and Eduardo Neri filled out the rest of the Titan finishes.

Joe Hertel took the 3,000-meter run crown in 9:01.54 as the only Titan in the race.

In the 4x400-meter relay, the Titans won with a time of 3:37.28.

Charlie Nolan won the high jump with a top height of 2.04 meters (6-08.25). Caleb Cornelius took seventh with a height of 1.87 meters (6-01.50).

Oshkosh had four of the top-eight finishes in the long jump. AK Toheeb-Lawal took fourth with 6.86 meters (22-06.25), Aaron Richardson took sixth with 6.68 meters (21-11.00), Sebastian Jefferson took seventh with 6.55 meters (21-06.00) and Caleb Wright took eighth with 6.50 meters (21-04.00).

Jonathan Wilburn and Nolan took the top-two spots in the triple jump with distances of 14.34 meters (47-00.75) and 14.25 meters (46-09.00), respectively.

Isaiah Isom took first in the shot put with a top throw of 14.59 meters (47-10.50). Cameron Bendixen took sixth with a throw of 12.61 meters (41-04.50).

Isom and Bendixen took two more top-eight finishes in the 35-lb. weight throw. Isom threw 12.99 meters (42-07.50) and Bendixen threw 2.85 meters (42-02.00).

St. Norbert took the top spot in the heptathlon, but the Titans took the following seven spots. Aden Sears took second (4,482 pts.), RJ Bosshart took third (4,455 pts.), Payton White took fourth (4,153 pts.) and Matthew Ewens took fifth (4,099 pts.). Fenyx Morningdove, Cole Spanbauer and Matt Scholbe took sixth through eighth.

The Titans return home on Dec. 10th for the annual UW-Oshkosh Early Bird Invitational.
