Titans Participate At Drake Relays, UW-Whitewater Meet

The UW-Oshkosh men's track & field team received a fifth-place finish from Steven Potter on Thursday (April 28) at the Drake Relays and victories from Jaylen Grant, Ryan Potter, Denzel Thomas and Eli Tranel on Friday (April 29) at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative Meet.

At the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, Steven Potter finished fifth among 21 contestants in the Unseeded University/College Division 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.33 that ranks 12th in the NCAA Division III this outdoor season. Nate Sloan, competing unattached, won the race with a time of 1:49.47.

At the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative Meet, Grant defeated 44 other participants in the 200-meter dash, Ryan Potter 47 in the 400-meter run, Thomas 45 in the 100-meter dash and Tranel 12 in the pole vault.

Grant won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.02 seconds while Etaijen Easter of Bryant & Stratton finished second in 22.58 and UW-Oshkosh's Brett Clavijo third in 22.59.

Ryan Potter took first place in the 400-meter run with a time of 49.29 seconds. Payton Flood of UW-La Crosse finished second in the event with a time of 49.46 seconds and UW-Oshkosh's Bo Koehn seventh in 50.27.

Thomas sprinted to a winning time of 11.03 seconds in the 100-meter dash. UW-Whitewater's Carsen Rindt placed second to Thomas with a time of 11.05 seconds.

Tranel earned his first-place finish with a height of 15-5 1/2 in the pole vault. Andrej Poljanec, competing unattached, finished second with a measurement of 15-5 1/2 and UW-Oshkosh's Mason Chapman eighth at 12-11 3/4.

Titan Leslie Fisher supplied a pair of top-three finishes with his second-place leap of 22-1 1/2 in the long jump and third-place skip of 46-9 1/2 in the triple jump. UW-Oshkosh also had Micah Senior finish third and Sebastian Jefferson fifth in the long jump with distances of 21-11 3/4 and 21-8 3/4, respectively.

The Titans collected two other second-place finishes from John Ford and Jackson Sheckler. Ford ran to a time of 55.05 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles while Sheckler threw to a mark of 54-1 1/4 in the shot put that ranks fifth nationally.

UW-Oshkosh additionally received a third-place time of 15:33.96 in the 5,000-meter run from John Thill, third-place distance of 51-7 3/4 in the shot put from Nick Tegtmeier, seventh-place time of 57.53 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles from Weston Lerdal and an eighth-place time of 16:00.62 in the 5,000-meter run from Eduardo Neri.

No team scores were kept at the Drake Relays or the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative Meet.

UW-Oshkosh performs at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship (presented by Culver's) next Friday and Saturday (May 6-7) in La Crosse. The six-time WIAC champion Titans finished third at the 2021 league championship with 122.5 points.
