Titans Win UW-La Crosse Phil Esten Challenge, Claim Six Titles

UW-Oshkosh won six event titles, including five on the track, to capture the 18-team UW-La Crosse Phil Esten Men's Track & Field Challenge that concluded three days of competition on Saturday (April 23).

UW-Oshkosh accumulated 171.5 points, including 32 in the 100-meter dash, to outdistance the 122.666 of second-place UW-La Crosse and the 117.5 of third-place UW-Eau Claire. UW-Stout finished fourth in the team standings with 95 points and Wartburg College (Iowa) fifth with 84.

Titan Aaron McCarroll-Richardson sprinted to a winning time of 10.46 seconds in the 100-meter dash. The event featured 40 contestants, including UW-Oshkosh's Robert Ogbuli who finished second with a time of 10.47 seconds, Joey Kean who placed third in 10.62, Denzel Thomas who ranked fourth in 10.64 and Jaylin Boatman who listed sixth in 10.80.

Led by Londyn Little's winning time of 48.73 seconds, UW-Oshkosh tallied 19 points in the 400-meter run. Little defeated 38 other runners, including Dylan Wachter of UW-River Falls who finished second with a time of 48.80 seconds and Titans Rashaad Henderson and Amitai Wheat who placed fourth in 49.34 and fifth in 49.55, respectively. 

Elijah Pena won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.47 seconds to help UW-Oshkosh score 18 points in the event. Josiah Ziebell of UW-Eau Claire finished second among the event's 21 competitors with a time of 56.36 seconds while Titans John Ford placed fourth in 57.14 and Weston Lerdal sixth in 57.35, respectively. 

UW-Oshkosh's Leslie Fisher earned first place among 25 participants in the triple jump with a measurement of 47-7 3/4 that ranks 11th in the NCAA Division III this outdoor season. Cade Gray of Ripon College finished second to Fisher with a distance of 46-9 1/2.

In the relays, UW-Oshkosh recorded this season's second-fastest Division III time at 400 meters and the fifth-fastest performance at 1,600 to win both events.

Little, McCarroll-Richardson, Ogbuli and Jaylen Grant helped the Titans win the 400-meter relay with a time of 40.66 seconds. UW-Eau Claire finished second among the event's nine competitors with its time of 41.13 seconds.

The 1,600-meter relay had Henderson, Little, Wheat and Ryan Potter of UW-Oshkosh win the event with their time of 3:14.85. Wartburg College placed second among the 13 relay squads with its time of 3:17.59.

UW-Oshkosh had two other second-place results as Jackson Sheckler recorded a measurement of 52-1 3/4 among 47 contestants in the shot put while John Thill ran to a time of 15:53.32 among 11 participants in the 5,000-meter run. Sheckler's distance ranks 12th in Division III this outdoor season.

The Titans also received a third-place time of 1:53.07 from Ryan Potter in the 800-meter run, a fourth-place height of 15-6 1/4 in the pole vault from Eli Tranel, a fourth-place time of 21.36 seconds in the 200-meter dash from Grant and a fourth-place scoring value of 5,838 points in the decathlon from RJ Bosshart.

UW-Oshkosh's additional fifth-place finishes went to Fisher with a leap of 22-11 3/4 in the long jump and McCarroll-Richardson with a time of 21.54 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

The Titans' remaining sixth-place listings went to Mitchell Bradford with a time of 30:40.17 in the 10,000-meter run, Neal McCourt with a height of 6-0 3/4 in the high jump, Aden Sears with 5,775 points in the decathlon, Nick Tegtmeier with a measurement of 138-1 in the discus, Eli Traeder with a time of 16:43.92 in the 5,000-meter run and Abdul-Karim Toheeb-Lawal in the long jump with a mark of 22-7 1/4.

UW-Oshkosh closed its top-eight performances with Andrew Rathkamp's seventh-place time of 4:02.26 in the 1,500-meter run, Tegtmeier's seventh-place throw of 49-0 3/4 in the shot put and Boatman's eighth-place time of 21.62 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

Earlier in the week, UW-Oshkosh's Cody Chadwick finished fourth among 12 contestants in the 5,000-meter run at the Colorado School of Mines Kit Mayer Classic in Golden, Colo. Chadwick competed Wednesday (April 20) and registered a time of 15:38.37.

UW-Oshkosh will send athletes to both the Drake Relays and the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative Meet this weekend. The prestigious Drake Relays will be held Thursday through Saturday (April 28-30) in Des Moines, Iowa, while the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative Meet will be held Friday (April 29).
