NCAA Championships To Include Sixteen Titans

UW-Oshkosh will be represented by 16 athletes, including six in the 60-meter dash, at this weekend's NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Competition in the 36th edition of the championships is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. (CST) Friday (March 11) and 10 a.m. (CST) Saturday (March 12) from the JDL Fast Track.

The top 20 individuals and 12 relay teams earned their way to the national meet based on results throughout the season. The top eight finishers in each event at the championship will receive All-America status.

UW-Oshkosh's entries in the 60-meter dash are led Davian Willems and Jaylen Grant. Willems is seeded second and Grant third in the event with school-record qualifying times of 6.72 seconds from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships held Feb. 25-26 in Platteville and the UW-Oshkosh Titan Challenge held Feb. 19, respectively. Sam Blaskowski of UW-La Crosse is the top seed in the 60-meter dash for the Division III Championships with a time of 6.70 seconds.

Londyn Little of the Titans is seeded 10th in the 60-meter dash with a qualifying time of 6.82 seconds from the UW-Oshkosh Early Bird Invitational held Dec. 11 while teammates Denzel Thomas is seeded 12th with a time of 6.83 from the WIAC Championships, Joseph Kean 17th with a time of 6.84 from the UW-Oshkosh Titan Challenge and Aaron McCarroll-Richardson 19th with a time of 6.84 from the WIAC Championships.

Willems won the 60-meter dash at the WIAC Championships while Thomas finished fourth, McCarroll-Richardson fifth, Grant sixth and Kean seventh.

UW-Oshkosh owns three contestants in the 200-meter dash – fifth-seeded Little, 15th-seeded McCarroll-Richardson and 19th-seeded Robert Ogbuli. Little earned his seed with a qualifying time of 21.77 seconds from the UW-Oshkosh Early Bird Invitational. McCarroll-Richardson and Ogbuli qualified with times of 22.00 and 22.08 seconds, respectively, from the Ripon College NCAA Final Qualifier held March 4-5. Dallas Wright of Wartburg College (Iowa) is the top seed in the 200-meter dash for the Division III Championships with a time of 21.62 seconds.

McCarroll-Richardson finished fourth, Little fifth and Ogbuli seventh in the 200-meter dash at the WIAC Championships.

Titan Jonathan Wilburn acquired the top seed in the triple jump for the Division III Championships with a winning measurement of 49-8 1/2 from the WIAC Championships. UW-Oshkosh's Leslie Fisher is seeded 19th in the event with a distance of 47-3 1/2 from the UW-Whitewater "Squig" Converse Invitational held Jan. 28.

UW-Oshkosh's Steven Potter is seeded fifth in the 800-meter run and Eli Tranel sixth in the pole vault with qualifying performances of 1:52.40 from the UW-Oshkosh Early Bird Invitational and 16-4 3/4 from the Ripon College Red Hawk Invitational held Feb. 5. Potter won the 800-meter run at the WIAC Championships with a time of 1:54.82 while Tranel finished fourth in the pole vault. Mike Jass of Loras College (Iowa) is the top seed in the 800-meter run for the Division III Championships with a time of 1:50.13 while Ben Drummy from the University of Southern Maine is the top seed in the pole vault with a height of 16-9 1/2.

Other individual participants for the Titans at this weekend's championships are 13th-seeded Caleb Cornelius in the high jump and Ryan Potter in the 400-meter run. Cornelius qualified with a winning leap of 6-8 3/4 and Potter with a victorious time of 49.18 seconds from the WIAC Championships. Kyle Rollins is the top seed in the high jump for the Division III Championships with a height of 7-2 1/2 while Wartburg College's Wright is the top seed in the 400-meter run with a time of 48.11 seconds.

Ryan Potter will also race with teammates Rashaad Henderson, Bo Koehn and Amitai Wheat this weekend in the 1,600-meter relay. The quartet is seeded fifth with a qualifying time of 3:17.18 from the UW-Oshkosh Titan Challenge. Rowan University (N.J.) is the top seed in the 1,600-meter relay for the Division III Championships with a time of 3:15.89. 

North Central College (Ill.) is the defending national champion after the 2020 and 2021 Division III Championships were canceled due to the global coronavirus pandemic. The Cardinals won the 2019 title with 55 points to easily outdistance defending national champion University of Mount Union's (Ohio) and 2017 co-champion UW-La Crosse's second-place totals of 39. North Central College and UW-La Crosse shared the 2017 title.

UW-Oshkosh, which is seeking its first Division III indoor national title since 2009, finished ninth in the team competition at the 2019 NCAA championships with 17 points. The Titans were second-place finishers at the Division III Championships in 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2013.
