Titans Start Season In Impressive Fashion

Nine Titans won events as UW-Oshkosh opened its 2021-22 men's indoor track & field season with a stupendous performance at the Ripon College Winter Open on Saturday (Dec. 4).

The non-scoring meet featured participants from Carroll University, Edgewood College, Ripon College, UW-Oshkosh and Viterbo University.

Winning events on the track for the Titans were Jaylen Grant in the 60-meter dash with a school-record time of 6.78 seconds, Adrian Girone in the 200-meter dash at 22.68 seconds, Amitai Wheat in the 400-meter run at 50.23 seconds, Ryan Potter in the 800-meter run at 1:53.25, Andrew George in the mile run at 4:17.80, John Thill in the 3,000-meter run at 9:12.67, Mitchell Bradford in the 5,000-meter run at 15:10.66 and Aaron Kiela in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.64 seconds.

The UW-Oshkosh contestant to win a field event was Jonathan Wilburn. He won the triple jump with a measurement of 48-3 1/2.

UW-Oshkosh dominated three events by owning the top-eight finishers in the 60-meter dash, the top-six finishers in the 800-meter run and the top-four finishers in the 5,000-meter run.

Grant was followed in the 60-meter dash by Davian Willems' second-place time of 6.82, Robert Ogbuli's third-place performance of 6.93 and Denzel Thomas' fourth-place effort of 6.95 seconds.

Trailing Ryan Potter in the 800-meter run were Reid Marquardt with his second-place time of 1:58.71, Noah Bruehl with his third-place tempo of 1:58.93 and Dwight Hosni with his fourth-place speed of 1:59.87.

Bradford was shadowed in the 5,000-meter run by Joseph Kehoe's second-place time of 15:30.94, Jason Ford's third-place effort of 15:49.59 and Eduardo Neri's fourth-place performance of 15:52.23.

UW-Oshkosh completed its second-place results with the times of 50.55 seconds in the 400-meter run by Elijah Pena and 4:21.26 in the mile run by Steven Potter, and the measurements of 22-10 1/2 in the long jump by Abdul-Karim Toheeb-Lawal and 14-5 1/4 in the pole vault by Zachary Zirgibel.

The Titans also received third-place outcomes of 9:15.16 in the 3,000-meter run from Ryan Dolnik, 23.20 seconds in the 200-meter dash from Bo Koehn and 13-5 1/4 in the pole vault from Mason Chapman.

UW-Oshkosh rounded out its fourth-place listings with the times of 52.72 seconds in the 400-meter run from Rashaad Henderson, 9:15.23 in the 3,000-meter run from Andrew Strasser and 23.25 seconds in the 200-meter dash from Evan Wendland, and the distances of 47-3 in the 35-pound weight throw from Matt Dorenkamper, 42-7 in the shot put from Jack Malloy and 22-9 in the long jump from Micah Senior.

The Titans return to action next Saturday (Dec. 11) by hosting the UW-Oshkosh Early Bird Invitational in Kolf Sports Center.
