Titans Record Large List Of Event Winners Against Warhawks

The UW-Oshkosh men's track & field team owned nine of the 14 event winners, including Jonathan Wilburn with his nation-leading measurement in the triple jump, during its non-scoring dual meet at UW-Whitewater on Friday (Feb. 19).

Wilburn, a two-time NCAA Division III indoor All-American, was competing in his first meet of the season and defeated six other contestants with his winning distance of 48-11. Wilburn, who holds the UW-Oshkosh indoor record with a skip of 50-3 1/4, won Friday's event by nearly two feet over the 47-0 3/4 second-place mark of UW-Whitewater's C.J. Pfeil.

Wilburn was among seven Titans who entered this season's Division III top-15 performance list on Friday. The others were Jamyle Brantley in the long jump, Rashaad Henderson in the 200-meter dash, Steven Potter in the mile run, Joshua Rivers in the high jump, Eli Tranel in the pole vault and Amitai Wheat in the 400-meter run.

Brantley etched the nation's second-best long jump with his winning leap of 23-4. The 2020 Division III indoor All-American defeated 10 other participants on Friday, including Titan Aaron McCarroll-Richardson who finished second with a distance of 22-8 1/2.

Henderson, a freshman, recorded Division III's 14th-best sprint in the 200-meter dash with his victorious time of 22.54 seconds. The Titans had the top five finishers in the event as Denzel Thomas placed second in 22.72 seconds, Brett Clavijo third in 23.31, Evan Wendland fourth in 23.11 and Joshua Rivers fifth in 23.50.

Potter cracked the national honor roll with his seventh seeded time of 4:13.80 in the mile run. Potter finished second in the event to UW-Whitewater's David Fassbender, who posted a winning time of 4:13.67. Titan Andrew George placed third among the event's 17 runners with a time of 4:15.53.

Rivers leaped to a height of 6-5 1/2 in the high jump to share second place with UW-Whitewater's Quinn Halverson. Josh Krystosek of UW-Whitewater won the event of 10 participants with a leap of 6-5 1/2. The performances by Krystosek, Halverson and Rivers, which all rank 12th in the country, were separated on Friday by the number of unsuccessful jumps.

Tranel defeated five other challengers in the pole vault with his winning height of 15-5. The measurement for the 2020 Division III All-American currently ranks fifth in the country. UW-Whitewater's Chris Blitz finished second to Tranel with a height of 14-5 1/4 and UW-Oshkosh's Brant Sanderfoot third at 11-1 3/4.

In the 400-meter run, Wheat registered the nation's 11th-fastest time in the 400-meter run at 50.43 seconds. He won the race over Titan Adrian Girone, who finished second with a time of 52.57. The event had three other runners.

UW-Oshkosh had the top six finishers in the 60-meter dash as Jaylen Grant won the sprint with a time of 6.88 seconds. Thomas ranked second to Grant with a time of 6.97 seconds while Robert Ogbuli placed third in 6.97, Joseph Kean fourth in 7.00, Richard Bosshart fifth in 7.02 (7.018) and Jaylin Boatman sixth in 7.02 (7.019).

Other event winners for the Titans were Reid Marquardt in the 800- and Andrew Muskevitsch in the 5,000-meter runs with times of 2:00.57 and 15:41.84, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh's 1,600-meter relay team of Boatman, Grant, Henderson and McCarroll-Richardson captured first place with its time of 3:32.86. The Titans owned the next two listings in the event as Marquardt, Wendland, Noah Bruehl and Noah O'Neill finished second in 3:33.04 and Bosshart, Clavijo, Ogbuli and Wheat third in 3:40.19.

The Titans had two other second-place efforts, all on the measurements of 44-6 by Jack Malloy in the shot put and 51-3 3/4 in the 35-pound weight throw by Max Schoening.

Other third-place results went to UW-Oshkosh's Elijah Pena in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.77 seconds, Matthew Dorenkamper in the shot put with a distance of 43-3 1/4 and Mason Resch in the 35-pound weight throw with a cast of 49-7.

Eduardo Neri and Bo Koehn rounded out the Titans' top-four listings with their fourth-place times of 15:49.60 in the 5,000-meter run and 9.98 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, respectively.

The Titans entered Friday's meet ranked second nationally in the Division III Indoor Track & Field Rating Index compiled by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

UW-Oshkosh will compete Wednesday (Feb. 24) and Thursday (Feb. 25) at the UW-Stevens Point Multi-Event Invitational before hosting UW-Eau Claire in a dual meet on Saturday (Feb. 27) in Kolf Sports Center.
