UW-Oshkosh Defeats All 11 Opponents At Titan Challenge

UW-Oshkosh's last competition before next weekend's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship was a successful one as it captured first place at the 12-team Titan Challenge held Saturday (Feb. 22) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division III by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, won its largest home meet of the season with 157.5 points. The Titans scored 31 of their points in the 60-meter dash, 25 in the long jump and 20 in the mile run.

UW-Eau Claire finished second to UW-Oshkosh in the team standings with 98.5 points while UW-Stevens Point placed third with 82, UW-Stout fourth with 69 and Carthage College fifth with 34.

UW-Oshkosh swept the top-four places in the 60-meter dash as Jaylen Grant defeated 50 other sprinters with his winning and school-record time of 6.81 seconds. The time achieved by Grant is the second fastest in the NCAA Division III this winter.

The Titans also had Robert Ogbuli finish second in the 60-meter dash with his season-best time of 6.90 seconds, Denzel Thomas third in 6.997, Benjamin Jung fourth in 7.00 and Roman Hill seventh in 7.12. Ogbuli ranks 12th in the country after Saturday's sprint while Jung ranks 20th with his season-best time of 6.94 seconds at the Ripon College Red Hawk Opener held Jan. 25 and Thomas 29th with his season-best time of 6.98 at the UW-Oshkosh Early Bird Invitational held Dec. 7.

In the long jump, Jamyle Brantley beat 16 other participants with his winning and season-best leap of 23-6 3/4. The distance registered by Brantley ranks ninth in the nation.

UW-Oshkosh also had Hill placing second in the long jump with a measurement of 22-9 1/4, Aaron McCarroll-Richardson fourth at 22-8 and Justin Rivers seventh at 21-6. Hill ranks 11th with his season-best distance of 23-5 1/4 at the UW-Whitewater Midwest ELITE Invitational held Feb. 15 and McCarroll-Richardson 23rd with his season-best mark of 23-1 1/4 at the UW-Whitewater "Squig" Converse Invitational held Jan. 31.

UW-Oshkosh claimed the top-two finishes and three scoring positions overall in the mile run. Steven Potter won the race of 55 contestants with his season-best time of 4:15.91 while Andrew George placed second with his season-best run of 4:18.06 and Cody Chadwick seventh in 4:28.38. Potter now ranks 21st in the country and George 38th.

The Titans earned a Division III-leading performance in the 1,600-meter relay on Saturday as Todd Beadle, Ethan Burch, Adrian Girone and Amitai Wheat defeated nine other squads with their winning time of 3:16.83.

UW-Oshkosh's other second-place results went to Jung with his time of 22.27 seconds in the 200-meter dash, Rivers in the high jump with his leap of 6-7 1/2, Wheat in the 400-meter run with his season-best time of 50.16 seconds and Nick Engels in the 800-meter run with his time of 1:58.47. Wheat ranks 47th in the country after Saturday's 400-meter run while Rivers ranks eighth with his season-best high jump of 6-9 1/2 at the UW-Stevens Point Big Dawg Invitational held Feb. 8 and Jung 20th with his season-best time of 22.25 seconds recorded against Lawrence University on Jan. 18.

The Titans' four remaining fourth-place mentions belonged to McCarroll-Richardson with his season-best time of 22.48 seconds in the 200-meter dash, Nick Tegtmeier with his throw of 54-1 1/4 in the shot put, Joe Vils with his height of 15-8 1/4 in the pole vault and Jonathan Wilburn with his skip of 45-11 3/4 in the triple jump. McCarroll-Richardson ranks 47th in the nation after Saturday's 200-meter dash while Wilburn ranks first with his season-best measurement of 50-3 1/4 in the triple jump at the Ripon College Red Hawk Opener, Vils eighth with his season-best height of 15-11 3/4 in the pole vault at the UW-Whitewater Midwest ELITE Invitational and Tegtmeier 11th with his season-best mark of 54-5 1/2 in the shot put at the UW-Whitewater "Squig" Converse Invitational.

UW-Oshkosh also received a fourth-place time of 50.50 seconds in the 400-meter run from Bo Koehn, a fifth-place throw of 53-8 1/4 in the shot put from Jackson Sheckler, a sixth-place height of 14-8 1/4 in the pole vault from Zachary Emmer and seventh-place times of 8.74 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles from Kunmi Olatunde and 22.57 in the 200-meter dash from Lochlan Siegmeier. Sheckler ranks fifth nationally in the shot put with his season-best measurement of 56-5 1/4 recorded against Lawrence University and Emmer 32nd in the pole vault with his season-best height of 15-1 at the UW-Stevens Point Big Dawg Invitational.

Titan Reid Marquardt finished eighth in the 800-meter run with his time of 2:01.41.

UW-Oshkosh will host the 52nd Annual WIAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 28-29) in Kolf Sports Center. The five-time WIAC champion Titans finished second at last year's conference championship with 104 points.
