Titans To Perform At WIAC Indoor Championship
UW-La Crosse attempts for a 17th straight crown at the 2018 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship (presented by Culver's) at UW-Stevens Point's Multi-Activity Center on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 23-24). The 50th gathering of the men's teams will be held concurrently with the 42nd edition of the women's championship.
The Eagles secured the 42nd league title in program history a year ago with 150 points to surpass UW-Stevens Point's second-place total of 117 points. UW-Whitewater placed third with 105 points, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 94.5, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 87.5, UW-Platteville sixth with 57.5, UW-River Falls seventh with 31 and UW-Stout eighth with 20.5.
This year's championship features six student-athletes who have combined to win seven individual titles and one relay crown at previous WIAC championships. It will also include five teams ranked in the Top 25 of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III rankings as UW-La Crosse lists fifth, UW-Oshkosh sixth, UW-Whitewater seventh, UW-Eau Claire 14th and UW-Stout 15th.
UW-Whitewater's Parker Witt was selected the Track Performer of the Meet a year ago after winning the 60- and 200-meter dashes. It marked his second straight first-place finish in the 200-meter dash.
UW-Eau Claire's David Kornack is the defending champion in the shot put, while UW-Oshkosh's Justin Skinkis was victorious in last year's 800-meter run. UW-Platteville's Jacob Hirsbrunner will look for back-to-back first-place finishes in the heptathlon and UW-Whitewater's Christian Jackson will aim for consecutive titles in the 60-meter hurdles. UW-La Crosse's Sam Hinz contributed to last year's triumphant distance medley relay quartet.
