Titans Place Third At Cardinal Opener

Naji Allan and Nick Grosskopf both won two events to lead the UW-Oshkosh men's track & field team to a third-place finish at the North Central College Cardinal Opener held Friday (Jan. 23) in Naperville, Ill.

North Central College captured the team title with 189 points, while UW-Whitewater finished second with 145 and UW-Oshkosh third with 129. Carthage College placed fourth among the five competing teams with 75.5 points and St. Norbert College fifth with 42.5.

Allan was victorious in both sprint events. He crossed the finish line in 6.94 seconds at 60 meters and 22.34 seconds at 200.

Grosskopf was a winner in both throwing events. He recorded measurements of 54-0 1/2 in the shot put and 53-11 3/4 in the 35-pound weight throw.

Zachary Baehman and Kallen Bentz were also multiple place winners for the Titans. Baehman finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 52-4 1/2 and sixth in the 35-pound weight throw with a mark of 50-8 3/4. Bentz ran to a third-place 200-meter dash time of 23.03 seconds and a fifth-place 60-meter dash performance of 7.26 seconds.

UW-Oshkosh finished second in five events, including the 1,600-meter relay where Brian Beaudo, Garrison Griest, Dan Trimner and Reid Zanoya posted a time of 3:22.02.

Individually, second-place efforts belonged to Beaudo in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.88 seconds, Dominic Ebube in the long jump with a leap of 21-9, Mike Heinz in the 35-pound weight throw with a distance of 53-10 1/4 and Charlend Howard in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:52.96.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining third-place finisher was Zanoya in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.31 seconds.

The Titans had two other fifth-place mentions as Trimner sprinted to a time of 23.13 seconds in the 200-meter dash while Effa Hunter leaped to a measurement of 21-3 1/2 in the long jump.

Other sixth-place listings for UW-Oshkosh were Kevin Caufield's height of 14-1 3/4 in the pole vault, Mitch Pauers' time of 2:01.63 in the 800-meter run and Charlie Scott's performance of 4:30.75 in the mile run.

Next Friday (Jan. 30), UW-Oshkosh competes at the UW-Whitewater Leonard "Squig" Converse Invitational.
