Titans Advance to WIAC Tournament with Win

River Falls, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh Titans women's soccer team (5-8-5, 1-3-3 WIAC) won over the UW-River Falls Falcons (9-7-4, 0-6-1 WIAC) in the regular season finale. 

With the win, they will face off against the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds (11-5-2, 4-1-1 WIAC) in Eau Claire on Nov. 1 at 6 p.m.

Titan Leaders

Rylie Kaufmann and Mackenzie Bennett led the Titans with a goal apiece. Gabby Born and Quinlan Thomas each had an assist. Thompson also led the Titans with three shots on goal. Goalkeeper Mallory Kehrin faced seven shots, saving six.

Falcon Leaders

Kassidy Mackie scored the Falcons' only goal, assisted by Haley James. Lexi Peterson led River Falls with four shots on goal. Kaylie Kreuger started in goal for the Falcons, making four saves on five shots faced. Grace Zellmer came in in the 46th minute and racked up five saves on six shots faced. 

Game Recap

There were nine shots before the 25th minute of the game, when Rylie Kaufmann snuck a shot past Kaylie Krueger at 25:31, assisted by Gabby Born, to put the Titans up by a goal. The Falcons outpaced the Titans in shots 4-1 through the rest of the half, but no one found the back of the net. The Falcons would tie the match 17 minutes into the second half with a goal by Kassidy Mackie, assisted by Haley James. The Titans led the rest of the half in shots, 10-4, with Oshkosh's last shot being a goal coming from Mackenzie Bennett, assisted by Quinlan Thompson in the 88th minute.

Looking Forward

The Titans enter the WIAC tournament as the No. 6 seed, facing the No. 3 seeded UW-Eau Claire Blugolds (11-5-2, 4-1-1 WIAC) in Eau Claire on Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. The Blugolds are led by Sydney Spencer (nine goals, 0.409 shot percentage), and Kennedy Boll, who has allowed 16 goals all season. The Blugolds score 1.89 goals per match, while allowing 0.90 goals per match.
