Wrestlers Headed To NCAA West Regional

UW-Oshkosh's top wrestlers will try to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship at Saturday's (March 2) West Regional in Minneapolis, Minn.

Action begins at 9 a.m., with Augsburg College (Minn.) hosting the event. This regional features 12 teams, including Concordia College (Minn.), Concordia University, Lakeland College, Maranantha Baptist Bible College, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Pacific University (Ore.), St. John's University (Minn.), St. Olaf College (Minn.), UW-Eau Claire and UW-Platteville.

The top three finishers in each weight class qualify for the NCAA Division III Tournament, which is March 15-16 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

UW-Oshkosh is led by Nazar Kulchytskyy (Jr. • Sosnivka, Ukraine), last season's national champion at 157 pounds. Wrestling at 165 pounds this year, Kulchytskyy owns a 33-1 record with 20 pins. He leads the nation in pins and points per match (5.44).

Other Titans expecting to contend are Tom Dahlke (So. • Shiocton) and Dan Schiferl (Jr. • Stoughton). The 174-pound Schiferl is 13-4 with nine pins. Dahlke holds a 15-10 record at 157 pounds. 

UW-Oshkosh placed 14th at the NCAA Division III Championship last season for its best finish in 30 years.
