Walker Earns Three All-America Awards

UW-Oshkosh's Krystal Walker (Fr. • Chicago, Ill.) earned All-America awards in three categories at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championship held Friday and Saturday (March 22-23) in Whitewater.

Walker finished second on the balance beam and fourth in the all-around competition to receive All-America first team honors. She placed 11th on the vault to collect All-America second team status.

Walker posted a score of 9.525 on the balance beam. It was the sixth time this season that she surpassed a mark of 9.50 on the apparatus. Stephanie Schuler of State University of New York-Brockport took first place on the balance beam with 9.625 points, while Brittany Baglow of Springfield College (Mass.) and Michaela McCarney of UW-Eau Claire finished third with 9.50.

Walker totaled 37.625 points in the all-around competition for her second-highest score of the season. Sarah Nadrowski of State University of New York-Cortland won the all-around title with 38.10 points, while Katie Thompson of UW-Whitewater finished second with 37.95 and Baglow third with 37.65.

Walker recorded a score of 9.375 on the vault after marking a season-best 9.60 in the preliminaries. Nadrowski took first place on the device with 9.70 points, while Jena Jondahl of Winona State University (Minn.) finished second with 9.55.

UW-Oshkosh's Leane Blais (So. • Salisbury, N.C.) obtained All-America second team mention with her eighth-place score of 9.40 on the uneven bars. She tied a season best with a figure of 9.525 in the preliminaries. UW-Whitewater took the top two positions on the uneven bars as Cici Talcott finished first and Annie Mix second with scores of 9.725 and 9.675, respectively.

Courtney Benson of Hamline University (Minn.) won the title in the floor exercise with a score of 9.70.

Also representing UW-Oshkosh at the meet were Stephanie Gorman (Jr. • Belvidere, Ill.) on the vault, Elizabeth Kiel (Fr. • Union Grove) on the uneven bars and Abby Zubella (Sr. • Appleton) in the floor exercise.

UW-Oshkosh's Lindsay Hermsen (Sr. • Howard) was named by the NCGA as an All-American in Academics.

Defending champion UW-Whitewater captured the team title with 189.75 points, while UW-La Crosse finished second with 186.575 and State University of New York-Cortland third with 185.90.

State University of New York-Brockport, which shared last year's title with UW-Whitewater, placed fourth in the six-team meet with 185.30 points. UW-Eau Claire ranked fifth with 184.55 points and Ursinus College (Pa.) sixth with 181.325.

UW-Oshkosh claimed NCGA titles in 1989 and 2007.
