Titans Finish Fifth At WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional
UW-Oshkosh assembled its second-highest score of
the season and placed fifth out of eight teams at the WIAC Women's
Gymnastics Championship held Sunday (March 7) in St. Peter,
Minn.
UW-Whitewater scored 185.475 points to celebrate its first WIAC
title in school history, while 13-time defending league champion
UW-La Crosse finished second with 183.775. Winona State University
(Minn.) placed third with 183.60 points, UW-Eau Claire fourth with
180.325, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 179.675, UW-Stout sixth with
178.725, Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) seventh with 175.275 and
Hamline University (Minn.) eighth with 175.10.
UW-Oshkosh arrived at its team score by counting 46.025 points in the floor exercise, 45.40 on the vault, 44.625 on the balance beam and 43.625 on the uneven bars.
Stacie Jenkins (Jr. • Peoria, Ariz.) led UW-Oshkosh with a fifth-place score of 9.575 in the floor exercise. She also finished 13th in the all-around competition with a score of 35.00.
The Titans also received strong performances from Darlene Herrmann (Sr. • Newton, N.J.) and Mary Ann Oehlerking (So. • Hawthorn Woods, Ill.), who finished sixth and eighth on the uneven bars with scores of 9.125 and 9.05, respectively.
Jill Lindberg added a pair of top 20 listings by finishing 13th on the balance beam with a score of 9.30 and 17th in the floor exercise with a value of 9.35.
Other UW-Oshkosh competitors placing in the top 20 were Stefanie Armstrong (Sr. • Kennesaw, Ga.), Paula Delsart (Jr. • Green Bay), Gretchen Fackelman (Sr. • St. Louis, Mo.) and Ryan Metzger (Jr. • Hanover Park, Ill.). Armstrong finished 12th in the all-around competition with a score of 35.225, Delsart and Fackelman 15th on the balance beam with a mark of 9.25 and Metzger 18th on the uneven bars with a tally of 8.70.
The top six finishers in each event secured
All-Conference recognition.
UW-La Crosse's Gabi Hooper captured a pair of event titles,
winning the floor exercise with a score of 9.675 and the vault with
a mark of 9.625.
UW-Stout’s Meghan Hargens totaled 37.875 points to win the all-around competition for the second straight season.
Other event champions were Danielle Schulzetenberg of UW-Eau Claire and Justine Weyer of UW-Whitewater. Schulzetenberg posted a winning score of 9.725 on the balance beam, while Weyer recorded a winning value of 9.65 on the uneven bars.
The WIAC named Jennifer Regan of UW-Whitewater and Beckie Rolbiecki of Winona State University as its Co-Coaches of the Year. Hargens and Hooper shared the WIAC's Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.

Mathewson of Gustavus Adolphus College, Rebecca McLaughlin of
Hamline University, Lanai Peer of UW-Eau Claire, Christina Manelli
of UW-La Crosse, Fackelman of UW-Oshkosh, Taryn Fawcett of
UW-Stout, Weyer of UW-Whitewater and Amanda Cotter of Winona State
University.
The WIAC meet also served as the National Collegiate Gymnastics
Association (NCGA) West Regional. Teams advancing from the NCGA
West Regional to the NCGA Championship that will be held March
26-27 in Springfield, Mass., were UW-Whitewater, UW-La Crosse and
Winona State University.
