Titans Sweep Pioneers on Senior Day

OSHKOSH, Wis.—Sweeping their regular season finale, the nationally-ranked UW-Oshkosh Titans (33-5, 10-4 WIAC) defeated the Pioneers of UW-Platteville (24-14, 7-7 WIAC).

The Titans posted a 1-0 victory in game one before posting a 7-4 victory in the second game.

Game One Recap

It was a battle at the plate as the Titans and Pioneers combined for four hits in the first three innings of the day.

The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth. Abby Garceau doubled to left-center field to reach base before advancing to third base on a passed ball. Garceau scored what would be the game-winning run on an error by the Pioneers defense.

In the pitcher's circle for the Titans, Maddie Fink (16-2) recorded three strikeouts, issued three walks, and allowed four hits.

Game Two Recap

The Titans rattled off four runs on four hits in the first inning of game two. Brianna Davis scored off of Sophie Wery's RBI single to center field. Gabby Buikema had an RBI single as Hannah Ritter scored the second run of the game. Haylie Wittman drove in two runs with a single to center field as Buikema and Wery put the Titans up by four.

The Pioneers tied the game up in the top of the second, scoring four run on three hits and two errors.

The Titans scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. Garceau reached on a walk before scoring off of Buikema's RBI single. Morgan Rau drove in two runs with a single to left field as Wery and Hannah Ritter scored the game-winning runs.

After allowing four hits in the first two innings, Sydney Nemetz would only allow one hit the remained of the game. Nemetz (14-2) recorded five strikeouts, issued two walks, and allowed only five hits total in the game.

Buikema and Wery were the only Titans to record two hits in the game.

Titan Notes

Peeking at the record book, Ritter is six hits away from having the most hits in school history. Currently, Ritter has 191 hits. The record is 195 and was set by Sydnee Wyss, who played for the Titans from 2008-2011. 

The Titans are ranked 22nd in this week's National Fastpitch Coaches Association Poll.

With the sweep, the Titans have secured their spot in the conference tournament. The tournament will take place at the No.1. seed, May 11-14.
