Titans Softball Hits 30 Win Mark; Split Series with Blue Devils

MENOMONIE, Wis.—Splitting the conference series on Sunday, the No. 19 UW-Oshkosh Titans (30-4, 7-3 WIAC) took the first game against UW-Stout (9-24, 3-9 WIAC) before dropping the second game. The Titans won the first game 11-1 (five innings) before falling 4-3 in the second game.

The Titans have won 30 games five or more times in school history (1987, 2007, 2008, 2015, and 2017).

Game One Recap

Abby Garceau reached on an error before scoring on Morgan Rau's groundout.

In the third inning, Rau doubled to left field as Hannah Ritter scored the second run of the game for the Titans. Hitting her ninth home run of the season, Sophie Wery hit a two-run home run as Rau crossed the plate for the Titans. Wery is tied for first in the conference for home runs.

Haylie Wittman singled to left field as Sydney Rau scored for the fifth run of the game for the Titans. Garceau hit an RBI double as Wittman scored for the Titans.

The Blue Devils broke through the Titans defense, scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Titans had an explosive inning in the fifth, scoring five runs on three hits. With the bases loaded, Sydney Rau was hit by the pitch to send Lizzie Slobodecki across the plate. Wittman hit a two RBI double as Brianna Davis and Wery added runs for the Titans. Rau scored on a wild pitch. Wittman scored the game winning run on Graceau's RBI single.

Maddie Fink (14-2) went all five innings, recorded three strikeouts, and allowed one hit and run.

Game Two Recap

Garceau scored the opening run of the second game on Wery's sacrifice fly in the first inning.

Ana Iliopoulos was involved on the next two scoring runs for the Titans. Iliopoulos hit an RBI single in the second as Sydney Rau scored the second run of the game for the Titans. Iliopoulos hit an RBI single to center field in the fourth as Davis scored the final run of the game for the Titans.

The Blue Devils opened the bottom of the fourth inning with a home run before adding a second run at the end of the inning. The Blue Devils added two runs on three hits in the sixth inning to win the second game.

The Titans pitching recorded five strikeouts and issued two walks in the loss.

Next Time In Action

The Titans round out their road swing, facing off against the Pointers of UW-Stevens Point (20-10, 4-6 WIAC) on May 2. The Titans and Pointers will face off in their conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at the McCarty Memorial Field.
