Titans Swept By Warhawks; Announces Schedule Changes

OSHKOSH, Wis.—The UW-Oshkosh Titans softball program was swept in conference action this afternoon at the UW-Oshkosh Softball Park. The Titans (27-3, 4-2 WIAC) dropped the first game to the Warhawks of UW-Whitewater (19-5, 7-1 WIAC) in a 12-1 loss before falling 7-3 in the second game.

The Titans and Warhawks have the top pitchers in the conference. The Titans have an ERA of 1.44 as Maddie Fink and Sydney Nemetz take two of the top five spots for pitching ERA at 1.21 and 1.28.  The Warhawks have an ERA of 1.80 with Brooke Hock leading the league with an ERA of 0.40.

Prior to the game, the Titans honored the late Sharon Panske and dedicated the patio along the third base line in her honor.

The Titans were ranked at No. 16 in this week's National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll.

Game Two Recap

Sophie Wery has had a home run in three of the Titans' last four games. Wery homered to left-center field in the bottom of the fifth for the Titans, scoring the final run of the game for Oshkosh.

Abby Garceau scored the first run of the second game for the Titans, crossing home plate as Gabby Buikema reached base on a fielding error by the Warhawks.

Brianna Davis singled to shortstop to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning for the Titans. Davis would cross home plate on Hannah Ritter's single.

The Warhawks grabbed seven runs on 13 hits in the contest, with multi-hit innings in the third, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.

In the pitcher's circle for the Titans, Nemetz went 4.2 innings, allowing eight hits and five runs with two strikeouts. Abby Freismuth went 2.1 innings, allowed five hits and issued one walk.

Game One Recap

Haylie Wittman doubled to center field to start the Titans at bat in the third inning. Wittman crossed home plate on Garceau's single through the left side. All three of the Titans hits came in the third inning as Wery singled to right field.

In the pitcher's circle, the Titans saw Fink and Morgan Miller take to the circle. Fink pitched 3.2 innings and struck out three. Miller made her first appearance in the pitcher's circle for the Titans this season, allowing seven hits and striking out three batters.

Scheduling Note

The Titans conference doubleheader against the UW-Stevens Point Pointers has been postponed. The Titans and Pointers will now face off on May 2 with first pitch set for 2 p.m. in Stevens Point.

The Titans non-conference twin bill against Marian University has been rescheduled. The Titans and Sabres will play on April 27, starting at 3 p.m.
