Titans Softball Records Third Straight Shutout; Ninth on the Year

RIPON, Wis.—Recording their third consecutive shutout, the nationally-ranked UW-Oshkosh Titans (23-1) swept Ripon College (7-15) in a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon. The Titans posted an 11-0 win in the first game before posting a 9-0 win in the second game.

Titan Notes

The Titans moved up the National Fastpitch Coaching Associations top-25 poll, landing at No. 18.

Pitcher Sydney Nemetz was named the WIAC x Kwik Trip Pitcher of the Week, following her 11th win of the season against UW-La Crosse. Nemetz allowed three hits, zero runs, and struck out six batters in the Titans win.

The Titans recorded their ninth shutout of the season. The Titans have previously recorded nine or more shutouts since the 2001 season eight other times (9-2015, 2021, 2022; 10-2005 and 2017; 12-2008; 13-2006; 16-2007).

Game One Recap

The Titans recorded a season-best two home runs in the first game. Hannah Ritter (two-for-two, 2 RBI) doubled in the first inning as Abby Garceau scored the first run of the day for the Titans.

The Titans put up seven runs in the second inning, starting with Sydney Rau scoring as Garceau reached on an error. Repeating the first inning, Ritter doubled to left field and Garceau scored for the Titans. Hitting the third double of the day, and second of the inning, Sophie Wery (one-for-three) doubled to left-center field as Ritter scored the fourth run of the day. Gabby Buikema (two-for-three) hit the fourth double of the afternoon for the Titans, bringing home Wery and the fifth run.

Zoe Malone (two-for-two) singled to center field before advancing to third on an error Buikema to score the sixth run of the afternoon. Brianna Davis (one-for-two) hit her first home run of the season, a two-run home run as the Titans led 8-0 at the end of the second inning. 

Morgan Rau (one-for-two) hit a three-run home run in the third inning as Wery and Cali Divito scored for the Titans.

In the pitchers' circle for the Titans, Maddie Fink went all five innings, allowed two hits, and struck out four batters. 

Game Two Recap

The Titans were held without a hit in the first three innings of the second game. Buikema (one-for-two) doubled down the left-field line for the first hit of the game for the Titans. A walk by Ana Iliopoulos would bring Buikema in for the first run of the inning.

Garceau (one-for-two) singled through the left side as Haylie Wittman and Sydney Rau brought two runs in for Oshkosh. Ritter (one-for-three) hit her first triple of the season as Garceau and Iliopoulos scored for the Titans. Wery (one-for-two) singled to left field as Ritter brought in the sixth run for the Titans.

Wery would steal home for the seventh run of the game, collecting her first stolen base of the season. Wittman (one-for-three) singled as Rau and Buikema scored the final two runs of the game for the Titans.

Abby Freismuth collected her second win this season in the pitchers circle for the Titans, allowing two hits and one strikeout in four innings pitched.
