No. 22 Titans Sweep Green Knights

OSHKOSH, Wis.—Sweeping action in a non-conference doubleheader, the No. 22 UW-Oshkosh Titans softball squad improved to 19-1 on the season, defeating St. Norbert College this afternoon.

The Titans defeated the Green Knights of St. Norbert in game one 5-2 before posting an 8-0 score for game two.

Senior pitcher Maddie Fink tied her career best for strikeouts with 11 strikeouts in the first game against the Green Knights. Fink had previously recorded 11 strikeouts against the Green Knights on March 9, 2021.

The Titans recorded three triples in their second game against St. Norbert, tying the school record. The Titans had previously recorded three triples against Univ. of Chicago (3/23/18) and Ripon (4/19/16).

The Titans currently lead the nation in ERA through games on March 28, with an ERA of .84.

Game One Recap

The Green Knights struck first, scoring two runs in the first inning on a fielding error by the Titans.

Sydney Rau (two-of-four) singled to third base for the Titans first run of the afternoon, as Zoe Malone scored for the Titans. Abby Garceau reached base on a fielder's choice as Ana Iliopoulos scored the tying run of the game in the second inning.

Hannah Ritter (three-of-four) had an RBI single up the middle in the fourth inning, as Brianna Davis scored and gave the Titans an advantage. The Titans added two runs in the fifth inning, as Morgan Rau and Haylie Wittman scored for the Titans.

In the pitcher's circle for the Titans, Fink allowed only two hits and one walk.

Game Two Recap

Sydney Nemetz did not allow a hit until the bottom of the fifth inning, recording 10 strikeouts for the Titans.

Cali Divito (one-of-three) scored the first run of the game for the Titans in the third, the first of five runs scored by the Titans. Sophie Wery (two-of-three) hit a triple on her at bat, bring home Ritter, Wittman, and Garceau. Iliopoulos (one-of-three) hit an RBI single to right-center field as Wery scored the fifth run of the inning for the Titans.

Garceau scored on Wittman's (two-of-three) triple in the fourth inning, as the Titans led 6-0. Caitlin Williams scored for the Titans on a wild pitch. Morgan Rau scored the final run of the game for the Titans, as the Titans recorded their sixth shutout of the year.

Next Time in Action

The Titans will hit the road on April 4, as they travel to Ripon for a doubleheader. The Titans and Red Hawks are set for a first pitch at 3 p.m.
