No. 24 Titans Shutout St. Olaf and Trinity in Florida

CLERMONT, Fl.—Brianna Davis went six-for-six at the plate as the No. 24 UW-Oshkosh Titans swept action in Clermont, Florida today. The Titans posted a 4-0 victory over St. Olaf before defeating Trinity College 8-0.

This was the first back-to-back shutouts on the same day for the Titans since the 2021 season against Univ. of Southern Maine (7-0) and Linfield (3-0) on May 22. The Titans recorded back-to-back shutouts against UW-River Falls (9-0) and UW-Whitewater (1-0) in the WIAC conference tournament last season.

The Titans and Oles of St. Olaf met for the seventh time in program history, with the Titans holding a 6-1 series record after today's win. The Titans have won five straight matchups against St. Olaf.

In the second meeting between Trinity College and the UW-Oshkosh Titan, the Titans claimed their fifth shutout of the season with an 8-0 victory. The Titans won the first meeting between the squads in 2022 by 4-2.

Emily Cliver had a bunt single in the second inning as the Titans would be the first to score. Zoe Malone, who reached on walk, scored as Davis scored on a throwing error by the pitcher. Gabby Buikema hit an RBI single to bring home Cliver for the third run of the day. Davis (three-of-three, two stolen bases), hit an RBI single to left-center field to bring Caitlin Williams for the final run of the day.

Maddie Fink pitched her sixth complete game, going all seven innings and striking out four batters.

Davis was the only Titan to record two or more hits and stole two bases with one RBI on the day.

Trinity College Recap

The Titans took control of the game fast and early in their second game, scoring five runs in the first two innings. Morgan Rau drove in the first two runs of the game on a single to left field as Davis and Abby Garceau scored for the Titans in the first. Davis hit a double down the left-field line as Ana Iliopoulos scored for the Titans. Hannah Ritter got in on the scoring action with a 2 RBI single to right field as Davis and Garceau scored their second runs of the day.

Ritter singled through the left side for an RBI as Davis scored her third run of the game in the fourth inning. Garceau singled to left field for 2 RBIs as Buikema and Rau scored the final two runs of the game for the Titans. 

In the pitcher's circle for the Titans, Sydney Nemetz went all five innings, allowed only two hits, and struck out four batters.

Davis and Ritter each had two or more hits in the game as Ritter led the team with 3 RBIs. Sophie Wery and Zoe Malone recorded stolen bases for the Titans.

Looking at the Stats (As of March 22, 2023)

The Titans lead the nation in ERA at 0.71 and were one of four teams to be undefeated this season. The Titans lead the WIAC in on base percentage at .415, WHIP at 0.91, and walks at 56. 

Fink leads the WIAC in hits allowed per seven innings at 4.08 and in ERA at .29. Fink is No. 4 in the nation for ERA.

Ritter leads the WIAC in batting average at .523 while Wery leads the league in RBIs at 19. Nemetz leads the WIAC in victories while Fink leads the league in shutouts.
