Titans to Host NCAA Tournament First and Second Rounds

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team is headed to the NCAA tournament for the 12th time in program history. This will be the second time Oshkosh has hosted the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA tournament since the current format was introduced. They will host the First and Second Rounds on March 3 and 4, with teams from Hope College (Mich.), Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.) and Fontbonne University (Mo.) coming to Oshkosh.

Hope will face Bethany Lutheran at 4:35 p.m. on Friday, followed by UW-Oshkosh vs. Fontbonne at 7:05 p.m. The winner of game two will face the winner of game one on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.

Previewing the Titans

The Titans (21-6, 13-1 WIAC) won the WIAC regular season title and received the No. 1 seed in the WIAC tournament. They received a first round bye and defeated UW-Eau Claire at home to advance to the title matchup. In the title game, Oshkosh fell to UW-Whitewater, losing out on the automatic bid into the tournament. Oshkosh led the conference, allowing league-lows in points (63.3) and three percentage (33.1). Senior Levi Borchert leads the team with 419 points and a 54.9 shooting percentage from the field. He also has recorded the most rebounds (294), also leading in each individual rebounding category. Senior guard Hunter Plamann is shooting 42.0 percent (63-of-150) from three and senior guard Quinn Steckbauer leads the team at the line with an 84.3 shooting percent (59-of-70). Plamann, senior guard Eric Peterson and sophomore Jonah Rindfleisch lead with 74 assists, 46 steals and 32 blocks, respectively.

Previewing the Griffins

Fontbonne (16-11, 10-4 SLIAC) shared the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season title with Webster University (Mo.), receiving the No. 2 seed as a result of the tiebreaker. After a first round bye, the Griffins advanced to the title game with a win over Eureka College (Mo.). They swept the SLIAC titles, winning the tournament championship over Webster. Senior guard Caden Clark leads the Griffins with 368 points, averaging 13.6 points per game. Sophomore center Cheikh Thiam owns a team-best 52.4 shooting percentage (76-of-145) from the field and junior guard Brett Wagner leads in shooting from three (34.7 percent, 66-of-190) and Clark leads from the line (73.0 percent, 89-of-122). In rebounding, junior forward Will Suellentrop has recorded 195 combined rebounds, also leading in both individual categories. Clark has leads with 145 assists and 49 steals and Thiam paces the Griffins with 33 blocks.

Other WIAC Teams in the Tournament

UW-Whitewater earned the WIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and will face Wabash College (Ind.) in the First Round.

UW-Oshkosh students will be able to get free tickets sponsored by Chancellor Leavitt and the men's basketball program with their student ID for any Titan games this weekend. Sign up for tickets at this link. Be ready to show your student ID at the door to get into the game.

Due to a security breach of our ticketing system, UW-Oshkosh will be unable to provide online ticket sales. As a result, on game days we will only be accepting CASH at the ticket window inside the Kolf Sports Center. The window will open at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
