Titans Fall in WIAC Championship Game

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team couldn't get past UW-Whitewater, dropping the WIAC Championship on Sunday afternoon.

First Half Summary

Oshkosh kept the game close early after Whitewater scored the first points, even taking a 14-13 lead with 13:38 left in the first half, but the Warhawks' 14-0 run from 5:10 to 1:30 gave them a 14-point lead. Senior guard Hunter Plamann ended the half with a three, making the score 46-35 after 20 minutes of play.

First Half Leaders

Oshkosh shot 44.1 percent (15-of-34) from the field, 30.8 percent (four-of-13) from three and 50.0 percent (one-of-two) from the line. Senior forward Levi Borchert led the Titans with nine point, shooting four-of-seven from the field and one-of-one from the line. Senior guard Will Mahoney recorded six rebounds (one offensive).

Whitewater shot 51.4 percent (19-of-37) from the field, 36.4 percent (four-of-11) from three and 100 percent (four-of-four) from the line. Junior forward Trevon Chislom led all scorers with 18 points, going eight-of-12 from the field and two-of-three from three. Sophomore forward Carter Capstran led the team with six rebounds (one offensive).

Second Half Summary

Neither team scored more than three points in a row until the Titans went 8-0 to make the score 55-50 with 13:34 remaining in the game. Runs of six and five points by Whitewater put the game out of reach for Oshkosh. The score sat at 92-79 when the final buzzer sounded.

Full Game Leaders

The Titans finished the game shooting 38.0 percent (27-of-71) from the field, 30.8 percent (eight-of-26) from three and 58.6 percent (17-of-29) from the line. Borchert led the Titans with 16 points and 15 rebounds (eight offensive). He shot seven-of-13 from the field and two-of-seven from the line. Mahoney also scored 16, followed by Plamann with 13 and freshman guard Carter Thomas with 12. Borchert also tied a career-high with four steals.

The Warhawks finished with shooting percentages of 50.0 percent (33-of-66) from the field, 44.4 percent (eight-of-18) from three and 81.8 percent (18-of-22) from the line. Chislom scored 29 points, going 11-of-19 from the field, three-of-five from three and four-of-five from the line. The other four starters also scored double-digit points with 18 from junior guard Delvin Barnstable, 14 from both sophomore guard Jameer Barker and freshman guard Miles Barnstable and 13 points from Capstran. Capstran led the Warhawks with 14 rebounds (three offensive).

Looking Forward

The Titans will now await an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III tournament. The selection show will take place on Feb. 27 at noon local time on NCAA.com.
